Title: HiMedia H8 vs Q5 (latest version)
Post by: stormshadow on October 29, 2015, 01:46:15 AM
Mainly using it for HD video files (mkv, bluray iso).  Need it to support DTS-MA & Dolby TrueHD pass through via HDMI.  Anything extra is a plus.  Currently have a Q5 II which doesn't seem to support Dolby TrueHD (no sound).

Both products will pass DTS-HD MA and True-HD in Himedia Android player.

Q5 will pass both in Kodi if you install wrapper (see stickied topic).

H8 will pass both in native Kodi (no wrapper) but some users report that passthrough is a bit buggy with current firmware. It will be perfect soon though.

Which unit has better video quality?  Specifically with playing video files (mkv, bluray iso, etc).

Q5/Q10/M3 have the best image quality of any Android box bar none.

H8 is good, at least equivalent to Amlogic S812 / MiniX X8-H, but the Hisilicon chipset in Q5/Q10/M3 is designed specifically for media boxes and is the best.
