Title: 8TB Hdd problem
Post by: Tr1xt3r on July 05, 2018, 07:24:08 PM
Hi there, just wondering if the Q10 pro can handle an 8TB Hdd?
The specks say up to a 6TB but i`ve read where people have been able to use an 8TB.
I`ve tried but can't seem to get it to work. I`ve got 2 drives which I have pulled out of my PC,  one is a 4TB and the other is an 8TB
Both are formatted the same, the 4TB works fine but no luck with the 8
I`ve updated the Q10 to the latest firmware 2.0.8  running android 7.
Any help would be great.... thx

I think 4 is the max.

Try to delete all partitions, convert to GTP if it's not already,  create a new partition and format.

Not sure how to solve your problem but I can confirm that 8TB will work in this unit as I have one in mine right now.  Works perfectly and have had no issues.  Good luck!

I guess juts swapping right from a PC into the Q10 Pro won't work at all, cause the Q10 Pro uses different -means "special"- SATA controller chip. Thus you need to inevitably do the reformat procedure after you've have it inside the Q10 Pro? Cause the issue seems similar in the case of external HDD closures and this is the only solution that works with those.

I am running a Western Digital 6TB ( WD6003FZBX  ) in my Q10 pro, When I got it I formatted it with the USB 3.0 Port on the rear of the box and my Laptop, Have not had any issues at all, I swap between the 6TB and an older 2TB all the time

Drive I am using

8Tb HDD's work for sure.  I installed a WD Red in my brother-in-law's Q10Pro last year and it has worked fine, with no issues.
When I set it up, I did use the rear USB 3.0 plug with a cable into my PC and partitioned/formatted it like any external HDD.  As long as the drive was partitioned in Windows 10 using Computer Management, with GPT and formatted NTFS, it should just work.  If other software was used to partition and format the HDD, there could be a compatibility issue.
