Title: Internal HDD
Post by: discovery7 on April 15, 2018, 11:32:25 AM
I have read that before I can install an HDD into the Q10 I have to load a programme onto it and format it. How is this done and do I need equipment to do this. Where do I find the programme to put on it.
If I buy a Q10. I will want to install a 4TB internal HDD. Which is the best one to buy and what is its info so I can buy off Amazon.

Just connect it to a PC, initialize as GTP and format it with NTFS file system.

Good idea to read the FAQ so you get an understanding of what can be done.
Installing and formatting HDD thread:  http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=932.0

It is very easy if you have a PC to plug it into?  The Q10 is seen in Windows as an external drive if you use the USB 3.0 plug on the rear.

Choice of HDD is up to you and your budget.  I'd personally stay away from Seagate (especially Barracuda range) as they have been shown to be unreliable.  WD Purple would make a good video drive as it is designed for lower speed and constant video access.

I am using an HGST 4Tb NAS drive but that is overkill for video use (and is a spare for my NAS if one ever dies).

I am using a 1 TB HDD inside my Q10 Pro. There is not much you must do, just follow @stl instructions. About the brand, I would recommend a good Seagate HDD. Western Digital is a big NO. Samsung HDDs are ok, I guess. I would buy a Seagate HDD based on the information from a colleague, but a good HDD, not the cheapest one. I am actually using a 2.5 inches HDD inside my Q10 Pro that I rescued from an external HDD.
