Title: Q10 Pro - Wrapper vs. Kodi player
Post by: edge78 on January 14, 2018, 06:25:04 PM
Hi,

Could someone explain in few words what are differences between Wrapper and built-in Kodi player?

Does Kodi player plays 4K content? 7.1 audio? or is it just Wrapper that supports it.

Thanks.

Kodi will not natively play what you want....
The wrapper allows you to use Kodi as a library for content and to shell out (seamlessly) to the in-built MediaCenter player which can play 7.1 audio, UHD and framepacked 3D content once a video is selected.  When playing is stopped, it goes back to Kodi.

Thank you.

What I noticed (differences of using internal Kodi player on Kodi 17.6 against Himedia player):

- 4K HDR movies plays fine on both Kodi player and Himedia player;
- 3D bluray - wouldn't know, sorry :-)
- HD audio is not properly passthrough - my AVR receives 2.0 PCM only, although all options are properly set (wrapper passthrough works correctly with all sorts of streams including newest Dolby Atmos and DTS:X);
- Hi-Media player randomly save timestamp of interrupted movie (sometimes it resumes later from the position it was stopped, sometimes it doesn't - very annoying). There is no such behaviour from Kodi player;
- Hi-Media player sometimes pausing a movie during wathing and leaveas me with totally black screen. The solution is to stop a movie and start it again (only from the beginning, because in this case timestamp is never saved) - it happened to me 3 times during 3 week period.

Black screen: are you CFW? Going to OFW 2.0.6 solved the "Black Screen" issue for me.
