Hey all
I am on CFW 2.0.6 with built in Kodi 17.6. All apps up to date from the Play store.
Since I updated to this specific release, I have been facing a very annoying issue in Kodi.
While watching a video, I will suddenly get a black screen without sound, then get the Himedia screensaver (or is it Kodi's??). If I press return, I am back on Kodi's library and I have to start the video from scratch, it doesn't save where I had reached while viewing it.
Timing of the "black out" is completely random. It can happen a couple minute after starting a movie, or an hour after starting it.
Is anyone facing similar issues?
Is Kodi to blame? Is it the CFW?

Uninstall that kodi version, and intall kodi 16.1. It's more stable.
Or don't use kodi at all, use himedia player if you want to watch video. The picture quality is better.

Correction, nothing to do with Kodi. I just tried the himedia player, same issue.
I have been trying to watch a video for an hour now and it keeps giving me the black screen. I am going to try installing the OFW now...

Same thing happens to me with official firmware. Never happened with kodi internal player or MX player

Hey all
I reverted to the OFW 2.0.6 and the issue is gone.
@Pcristi
I guess disabling daydream would have resolved the problem but I think I'll hold out on updating firmwares for some time. Might give it a try next weekend....

I have also detected the black screen & mute on CFW 2.0.6 with the Screensaver turned OFF, but only during like 10 minutes after the boot-up.
-
I have black screen issue too, but in my case it's completely random. Sometimes it never happens, sometimes I have to reboot the machine because it happens every 5 minutes.
I'm on CFW 2.06 and Daydream set to off.
I will try with OFW.

I have tried with OFW 2.06 but the black screen issue is still there. :'(
I've also tried with other 2 hdmi cable but nothing changes.
Usually after 10 min. it starts ( I see that my AV receiver lost hdmi signal) and than it stops...bah very frustrating.

I don't know what to tell you... The issue was fully resolved after moving to OFW. I just had to update Kodi in the Play store to 17.6.
Not a single black screen in 2 weeks. The player is very stable now so I am not risking going back to CFW. The OFW will have to do until the next firmware update

I've been having this issue with Himedia player for months both from official and custom firmware's (several versions). The last few times it happened I noticed I was watching a H264 movie and it's completely random, it doesn't happen twice in the same file at the same playback time.
I've reported it to Himedia without reply. Currently I stopped using Himedia player entirely, because I have a stereo setup I use Kodi internal player which is far superior with subtitles handling. NEVER happened with Kodi player...

Thx for the answer.
Unfortunately I have to use Himedia player because of audio hd limitations with kodi player.

Maybe this is connected to the hard disk free space bug, one time I was having this problem very frequently. I connected the hard disk to my pc and run a chkdsk which corrected the free space available. After that the black screen during playback stopped happening for a while. The problem is that I delete a lot of movies, I only keep some that I really like.

My movies and tv shows are on a lan network share, so it's not my case.
Thx anyway.

These issues looking similar, but also different in another way.
It happened to me only on CFW 2.0.6, maybe a ?modified? system component needs there more time to activate after a fresh boot. ? After like 10 minutes of wait time, it played videos normally.
There was another -similar- issue with the screensaver on CFW 2.0.6, but that was different (and still is). But maybe they're related. This "10 minute wait time" blackening occurred also with the Screensaver turned OFF.
No internal HDD here, only SMB network playback, so that couldn't be the reason.
And no such an issue on OFW 2.0.6.

It is very simple. Follow Pcristi's link, and disable daydream. Even simpler, oper the 500 Firepaper app, and under settings disable screensaver. That''s it. Cheers everybody and a Happy New year.
