Hello
Im totally newbie and seek your expert advices /support. Apologies for sounding dumb to the regular here, im new to tech, i still do not have smartphone, im bit of a luddite but im trying to get better. Anyhow, i purchased the Hi-Media Q5 pro and love it, but noticed it came with Kodi 16. I want to upgrage to the latest version but do not know how to update the kodi section of the media player. If its not too much bother can someone send me the exact direct link( here) and what type of Kodi 17 version ( ie 32 bit or 64 bit ) i need for this player. I do not join Googleplay, as i dont want to join anything that needs google email online , is there any other way to install latest Kodi and how do i add this to my player and extract ? do i use USB and then extract on the player? what folder or section do i put this update on to extract the update, it is self extracting ? do i go to files , system etc ?
Sorry if im sounding confused, i really am, i just want to update and make the 17 version look like the 16 kodi interface , i like the look of that , so how do i do that ? i have seen some You tube tutorials and the kodi 17 look is different to 16, i like the 16 look, can i make 17 look like 16 ?
I hope someone has time to help me and my annoying newbie questions. If ii did not make myself clear enough, let me know i will try to explain again, as im new im not sure of the jargon you use here for technical questions.

Please read the FAQ on this forum regarding Kodi and also the "quirk" that may occur with the remote control (introduced with Kodi 17).
Best place to get Kodi from is Kodi's website:
https://kodi.tv/download
Grab the ARMV7A (32BIT) Release version (not Nightly).
Load the .apk file and install it from the "File Manager" app.

You can simplify the process by using the "Kodi Android Installer" app.
http://mirrors.kodi.tv/addons/krypton/script.kodi.android.update/script.kodi.android.update-1.0.2.zip
This will download the file "script.kodi.android.update-1.0.2.zip" to your Downloads folder on the SD card.
(You can do this on your HiMedia box using Chrome but, as you seem reluctant to use Google products, you may have to download it on a computer and transfer it to the HiMedia box using a USB memory stick?)
Then, in Kodi:
---
EITHER:
Point to on "Add-ons" in the Main Menu
Click on "Install from zip" in the "Categories"
OR
Click on "Add-ons" in the Main Menu
Click on the Install Box icon, the first icon in the Main Menu
Click on "Install from zip file"
---
then in the search box window, find the "script.kodi.android.update-1.0.2" you just downloaded to your Downloads folder and click on it. This will install the app to Kodi
When installed, run the app on Kodi.
You will be offered: "Nightlies"; "Releases"; "Snapshots"; "Test-Builds"
Make sure you click on "Releases" (unless you are adventurous!)
Click on "arm"
and, in your case, click on the "kodi-17.5.1" version, which is the latest release.
This will install the new version on top of your current version and keep all settings.
However, you should be making backups of your Kodi setup on a regular basis. If you are not see:

Hello
Thanks for all the info, just to clarify, by using the "Kodi Android Installer" app. It will not affect the rest of that player ? ie will it only update the Kodi part of the player and the media player will remain untouched ? I have alot of movies, this is why i bought the player , so utilise the media player part , Kodi is new to me and i want to make sure doing this upgrade for Kodi, it wont crash my player.

The Kodi Android Installer simply updates the version of Kodi that you have on your box. It does not affect any other software or settings.

the "quirk" that may occur with the remote control (introduced with Kodi 17).
Hi
Can someone point me in the right direction with regards to this remote quirk, so i can read about it. There are so many topics, i have no idea where to look. Please post me the direct link for this information on the remote control quirk.
Thanks
Plus i like the look of Kodi 16, i noticed kodi 17 is very different looking , how do i make Kodi 17 , look like Kodi 16 jarvis ? im speaking in terms of its appearance and usage , the ease of use of Kodi 16 is great.

The app's look is determined by a "skin". Check which skin you are using! I can't imagine why you would want to go back, the Kodi 16 skins were hideous!
Settings > Interface > Skin
Kodi 17 uses "Estuary" but click on it and you will be offered "Get more...". Choose the one you want. Others can be downloaded, check out https://kodi.tv/article/jarvis-skin-showcase

Check Kodi section in FAQ:

More specifically, it's this one:
Stop Kodi 17 new remote message and disabled back / menu buttons? In Kodi, go Add-ons / My add-ons / Peripheral libraries / Joystick Support / Disable

Hello,
I'm trying to upgrade Kodi 16 to 17 on my Himedia Q10 pro using the guide in this thread. I installed Kodi Android Installer but the current version is 1.0.8 (the link to 1.0.2 in this thread no longer exists).
However, when I run Kodi Android Installer, I got this error
Kodi Android Installer error
Check the log for more information
I checked kodi.log and saw nothing there. Could anyone help?

Go to Kodi.tv/download to get the latest release (17.6):
https://kodi.tv/download
Click on "Android" then "ARMV7A (32bit)" download and install this file.
You can copy it over to the HiMedia device or onto a flash drive. Use the File Manager to find the file and "Install".
Remember to read the FAQ about fixing Kodi 17's "joystick control" issue so the remote will work as intended.
