Regarding the big leap in version number from 1.0.9.1 to 3.0.1, Himedia say it's due to the new media centre. So the version number has taken on the media centre version number. Seems a little odd, I know. ::)
-
Nice !
-
Download link added.
-
First impression from 3.0.1
1) looks good and I'm going to watch Avengers: Age Of Ultron 3D ISO to test is it fixed audio drops out
2) but I have a little note about the new Media Center - why my shortcuts are positioned after all icons - I use more often my shortcuts more than other static icons from the Media Center?

Just Quick question before update. ....
My kodi addons Will be deleted after update firmware?
And other app install? (Like sopcast acestream or Firefox And his bookmarks? )
Thanks for The answer! 😁
-
try without reset - just copy update.zip to root folder of flash and then local upgrade
I do this every time and my settings are not lost.
If something doesn't work then you can reset the box via two menus for reset:
1) standard Android one
2) from the settings of Himedia

Sure, but what about the Media Center settings, not everyone uses Kodi?
And let face it, who likes upgrade with lost settings?

only kodi backup, system backup you need root device.
i do me test with my favorites 3D iso movie: pacific rim, star trek , transformer ecc and now:
- 3d is amazing ! perfect! no ghost!
- more 3d deep and effect
- picture quality is increase , with my plasma i seem have oled !
i have playback yesterday first part fo Mad Max: Fury Road with old firmware(it's became late so i had go to sleep ) and today i playback second part of film with new firmware, there are visible improvements of 3d and picture quality.
For me now Q5 is A+ for local file , the only missing with this box is better support for kodi video addon and web streaming.
There are some stutter, but it can happen from ripped file or file NAS buffer streaming, but very rare 1 or 2 for film .
I have test 23,976fps with motionbar test video ,no stutter.

Dolby Atoms doesn't work with LPMC output. Bitstreaming is fine. After installing the patch for atmos the player doesn't plays any file anymore.

Bitstream works, but how do you setup for PCM output?
I didn't succeed to make my Q5 to send 7.1 PCM to my receiver via HDMI?
The settings are little messy, don't you think?
HDMI Output : RAW - Close - Auto - LPCM
SPDIF Output : Close - LPCM - RAW
HBR Output : RAW7.1 - Auto - RAW5.1

I don't need LPCM - I prefer my AV receiver to decode the audio, just share my opinion.
My previous player DUNE has ability to bitstream original audio or
to decode the audio and send via HDMI same number of channels to the receiver.
And that's why I was looking for same ability in Himedia Q5.

Hi futeko.com,
about the new version 3.0.1
Why Media Center has a input box for username and password, but still they cannot be used?
Is it planned such feature or not?
I did analysis with tcpdump/wireshark to my storage (win7 64bit) and got this: the player even didn't tried to access the sharing?

Hi, i have read that it is possible to update my Q5 without loosing my settings (try without reset - just copy update.zip to root folder of flash and then local upgrade
I do this every time and my settings are not lost.
If something doesn't work then you can reset the box via two menus for reset:
1) standard Android one 2) from the settings of Himedia)
If so, why this procedure isn't mentioned in the update instructions? we shouldn't do this?
and if i update with the reset option, the backup made with backup addon for kodi 14.2 will still work ok with kodi 15?
and what is the "5. Supports changing default storage." option in the changelog?
Thank you

You can update using the Settings-Upgrade and it will keep local settings etc. The reason it isn't mentioned in readme is that it's preferable to do a clean install. Some apps will be OK with an update using old settings, some won't. It's better to backup settings using an Android backup app and install firmware fresh.
and if i update with the reset option, the backup made with backup addon for kodi 14.2 will still work ok with kodi 15?
Should be OK.
and what is the "5. Supports changing default storage." option in the changelog?
Thank you
'Supports changing default storage' is a setting under Settings-More-DEVICE. It lets you change what storage Android uses as default. So if you have loads of apps or apps that use a lot of storage you can use external USB storage for this.

only 2.0 LPCM out it's support, why you need Dolby Atoms with LPMC output?
The issue is that an atmos audio track with Dolby TrueHD (eg. expendables 3) isn't working whith LPMC (HDMI to TV) output. What I mean is that I have no sound when playing this file. Bitstreaming of the same video to an AV amplifier is working fine.

I bought one of these units and had the micro stutter so I returned it. Then I saw that a new firmware was out so I bought it again except I cant get the wrapper to work with an SMB share from my Asustor NAS with Kodi or with the media center. I've tried using a guest account with no password and that doesn't work either. I thought I read somewhere that Himedia was working on a new wrapper, does anybody know if this is true?
Thanks

Wrapper with Kodi works with non password protected SMB shares.
You say you can't play from the share even when using the Himedia android video player app? Do you see the share when you go Media Center - LAN - Autosearch ?
-
Hi and thanks for responding. I managed to get the media center to play content from my smb share using a guest account with no password. My NAS was preventing it. Once I turned off Network defender it worked but I still cant get the wrapper to play in kodi. When I just select an mkv file nothing happens. If I select "play with" and chose dvd player it works. If I select play with "himedia XBMC wrapper" nothing happens. If its a bluray iso and I select play with "himedia xbmc wrapper" I see the menu to select the main title and then when I select that nothing happens.
Any idea what might be causing the wrapper to not play?
Thanks
-
Who has updated to the new firmware and is satisfied? No more problems?
Nobody?????

It sounds like something is wrong with the wrapper install. To reinstall wrapper:
1. Install ES File Explorer (free from play store) and change settings-display so you can view hidden files. Navigate to sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/. Delete the playercorefactory.xml file.
2. Run the wrapper app again and it should show wrapper as not installed. Select the button to install it.
If this doesn't work then another way would be to reinstall both kodi and wrapper. Go Settings-Apps-Kodi and clear data, clear cache and uninstall. Then reinstall Kodi and wrapper.

Hi futeko

No, it doesn't fix this. Sorry. We have done what we can in pushing Himedia but ultimately it's up to them what they implement. I will continue to ask Himedia.
-
Hi,
Before I upgrade can somebody please tell what the new media player includes?...ability to select different audio from a file?...select subs etc?
I'm already using kodi 15.1 set up just the way I like it...so would the upgrade benefit me?...cheers

no , with Q5 you must use himediaplayervideo.
If you want 100% KOdi player must buy a rasberry pi or HTPC or H8.

Modified opening post to add download link for 3.0.1.1.
The only difference in the new firmware vs 3.0.1 is that it adds back the Miracast app and Miracast functionality.
-
Maybe a stupid question, but, I will ask anyways, how do I tell if I have a Chinese version of Q5? I bought it from a proper brick and mortar store here in Canada, as opposed to buying from Internet site.
-
AirPlay don't work in iOS 9.

The Chinese hardware usually (though not always) has a different logo on the top. Like this:
The version we sell (European, world or whatever - we call it 'European') has the HIMEDIA logo in English.
Also, the Chinese firmware is very different. It is designed for Chinese streaming TV so is almost all in Chinese.. If the firmware boots to a simple multi coloured launcher (a bit Windows 8 like) then it's the European firmware and European hardware.
-
Thanks for the information.
I found a page on the device that gave the version Q5EN2000 so I figured that mean English. I have downloaded and applied the new firmware, and it updated without error.
I am having the odd lockup with the new firmware, have to see if I can isolate how to reproduce it.
-

That number doesn't refer to Chinese / European hardware. Both versions can have that number.
-
Thanks, to me the EN part of that number would mean English. I think I have seen a model number (if it is a model number) that was Q5CN2000. Once I saw that it just made sense to me that the EN and CN represented the language or country.
-
is it still working doug that's the main thing
-
I have had to reflash a couple of times to repair some corrupted or changes I made to settings that I could not quickly find out how to undo them. This whole thing is a learning experience to me. It does not help that I am one of those that will refuse to read instructions until I absolutely have to. I just find that being that way helps me understand stuff faster.
To finally answer your question though, it does seem to be working good now. It occasionally takes a very long time to produce a list of movies in some addons, and will appear to be locked up. I have found that performing an ALT/TAB keystroke combination shows what apps are running. If that works, it is not locked up, it is just busy. This appears to be only on the first attempt to view a listing though.

Modified opening post to add download link for 3.0.1.1.
The only difference in the new firmware vs 3.0.1 is that it adds back the Miracast app and Miracast functionality.
I have updated my 1.0.8 firmware with the 3.0.1.1 provided in your link: now I read "3.0.1" (not 3.0.1.1) as the onboard fw version installed. Is this ok? Thx
-
me too, says 3.01. Also i don't have the new media center layout (maybe because i tried first the local upgrade without reset, and after i found that kodi didn't worked, made a reset and upgrade with recomended method. Also i saw that in sbs 3d movies, 3d subs (not srt subs) stay always on, (i see the last subtitle even there is no dialog and it change only with the new one), has anybody else notice this? I find also that if you put in the root of internal flash a text file called xbmc_env.properties and inside this file write the default location for your kodi settings that points to an external drive that you had copied the "kodi_data" folder, (mine has this line: xbmc.data=/mnt/sda/sda3/kodi_data), then you don't need backup, all your settings and addons are working ok
PS Can someone post a screenshot of the new start screen to make sure that i don't have the right one?
-
3.0.1 is correct for 3.0.1.1 firmware. 3.0.1.1 is just 3.0.1 with added Miracast. Himedia didn't update the version number internally.
-
Does this update fixes the 4K resolution problem?
When I want to have the resolution set to 3840 x 2160 30fps or 24fps, every movie(720p or 1080p) is played with delay betwen audio and video on stock video player, kodi is playing badly with frame drops and it freezes. For 4K movies the stock player is realy bad and Kodi is dead on this. >:(
-
I have the following issues with the firmware 3.0.1.1 on my Himedia Q5-4K3D Player:
1. 3D movies (ISO/MKV) are after switching from 3D -> 2D no longer play with 24Hz but with incorrectly 50/60Hz.
2. Furthermore, lacking an automatic adjustment of the resolution. In Android menu can have only one fixed resolution eg 1080p 24/50/60Hz set. For movies in 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution during playback will not be automatically converted.
3. Audio dropouts by MKVs H264 with DTS-HD, for example The Expendables 2.
4. With the internal Media Center I can not play movies in 10Bit.
-
When I try to proceed with the update, I see the Android green logo and then I see ERROR
Then it reboots
I am trying to apply the latest September Update 3.0.1.1
Q5 4K3D. 11-SEP-2015. FIRMWARE HMD-3.0.1.1 FUTEKO-EN
This is the device that I bought:

Because Amazon allows different sellers to sell on the same listing it's impossible for me to determine from the listing whether you have the 'European' or Chinese version of the Q5. Some of the question answers on the listing imply the Chinese version. If you have the Chinese version (were Chinese apps pre-installed?) then it is impossible to install the European firmware.
Alternatively you may have the European version but be making a mistake installing the firmware. Remember to extract 'update.zip' from the downloaded archive. Don't rename anything.
-
it worked, and now I have Dolby Atmos!!!
-
With this update mediaplayer drop frames when playing BD-3D movies...:( Until now I had 1.0.8 firmware and those problems was not present. It seems that Himedia fix something then broke something... It is not normal that we need to test a product over and over again....
-
Is it true that the q5 drop frames when playing BD-3D movies with the latest firmware? Is there still any such experience?
-
Not dropped frames, but microstutters and speed-up issues. 23.976 is rendered at 24.000.
-
Hello @magicoolje,
"With this update mediaplayer drop frames when playing BD-3D movies...:("
This problem I have also!
-
Futeko how about that?
-
This is much discussed here and on the Kodi forum. Himedia know about it and are going to do what they can to get it more perfect. They continue to develop the firmware.
-
- Spelling mistakes in the player menu "3D mode change" there lacks the L in "Origion Mode" -> Original Mode.
- Various problems with HDMI CEC and handshake. Please check.
-
So, Does Himedia Q5 have best picture quality? I think Q5 case is better than H8, but I don't know. Has H8 got bluetooth?
Are you planning a Hisilicon upgrade for Q5/Q10?

you are very very boring
-
langostino, please stop asking the same questions over & over here and in Kodi forum, and via PM. Get a HiMedia Q5 and be done with it.
-
Hi
I am new here at this forum. Just want to start off by saying Q5 is the very best android player among the ones I have tested.
Now, for the resent upgrade 3.0.1.1, it does fix the audio drop outs...almost. I was happy the first 1h45m of Avengers age of Ultron (DTS HD) but then the drop outs started again and lasted for a couple of minutes ???... I tried with restarting the mediapayer but without success. The last 10 min of the movie it was fine again without drop outs.
All in all it is light years better than it was before the upgrade, but i still needs a little refinement I think :)
-
The DTS audio dropouts problem still remain in some files
-
Hey, i have a tiny problem using subtitles with HiMedia player.
If i have some white portion on video i barely see subtitles.
Tried all font effects and colors but still the same.
Looks like some kind of transparency on white.
I mean, i barely see subtitles if they are over a man dressed in something white.
