Title: Kodi problems on Q10
Post by: maelor on October 14, 2017, 12:54:38 PM
Has anyone tried installing Kodi's 17.5 rc1 nightly builds on a Q10?

This week these THREE builds have installed, but failed to run:
kodi-20171011-b0626a5-Krypton-armeabi-v7a.apk
kodi-20171012-857c640-Krypton-armeabi-v7a.apk
kodi-20171014-2852c5e-Krypton-armeabi-v7a.apk

giving error messages when Kodi is run:

Kodi has stopped - Open Kodi again
Kodi keeps stopping - Close app

The last working build for me is:
kodi-20171007-f51e9d6-Krypton-armeabi-v7a.apk

I'm assuming this is a clash between the Kodi software and the HiMedia firmware?

I have pcristi's 2.0.5 firmware installed. Has anyone got the nightly builds working with this custom firmware? Has anyone got the nightly builds working with the official HiMedia 2.0.5 firmware?

I can see no mention of this problem on the Kodi forum, so it may be just happening on HiMedia boxes?

This could mean that when Kodi release 17.5 it may not work on the Q10  ??? ??? ???

LATEST: I gave up and installed Kodi 18.0 Alpha 1. All is working so far including BlueRay Menus. Also ExtendedInfo Script now works again  ;)!

Even Kodi 17.4 "stable" release is showing issues recently, after weeks of perfect behaviour.

Out of nowhere, it has come up with "Kodi starting for the first time" screen (twice in a couple of days) and then somehow re-enabled the rotten "joystick control" (which must be off for the remote to work correctly).
Kodi must be doing some sort of background updates as nothing has changed in hardware or settings.  When it messes up, it won't Exit or open the settings menus.
I now boot up Kodi, ensure it runs correctly and then exit to save, then open again (much faster the second time around).  I have also switched off auto library update as this seemed to be causing errors again.

I'd be very wary of nightly builds at present......
Maybe Kodi 18 will be the go eventually?

Yes Phil, I got all of those problems with 17.4 too!

But for me, the main advantage of 18.0 is that I can now use ExtendedInfo script again  :)

I had that problem too, every new Kodi version - including the latest Leia nightly build - is crashing instantly at startup.

Had to delete it and reinstall 17.4 again.

Kodi Team touch again how joystick addon is implementd.

Don't disabled joystick addon to avoit Kodi crash, if already crash remove
/sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/Database/Addons27.db
User familiar with PC can edit sqlite3 db(Addons27.db) to enable addonID peripheral.joystick

BTW still need someone to research how to avoid remapping button Back --> Del, etc...

Yes, last night's build crashed for me too ... but it recovered! Install the build then reboot the box, *then wait a couple of minutes before running Kodi*. I think the new build need a bit more install time than 17.5?

18.0 is working fine for me. Updating the Library seems to take *much* longer than with 17.5 though. But after the first update further update are quick. Perhaps 18.0 is creating a new Library with each nightly build?

How many times did it happen again since? Any other issues with it?

I'm still on a 5.1.1 Android fw (1.0.9), but looking forward to update from 16.1 to KODI 17.4. What are my chances, if it even crashes and messes up on the latest Android 7 firmwares?!

Anyone using here KODI 17.4 on any Android 5.1.1 fw?

Unfortunately I did try a Nightly 17.5 build after continued issues with 17.4 (restarting each time) and it crashed immediately and then kept looping.
Re-installing 17.4 did the same so uninstalled completely and then re-installed 17.4 from PlayStore.....

Had to rebuild (extensive) library from internal & external HDD, 2 Seagate Centrals, 2 NAS and a WD Cloud.  I used the opportunity to rename a few folders.  It took a while so I have re-installed Kodi Backup & Restore, just in case.

So far, so good........ worked well (once I disabled joystick in Kodi and enabled wrapper to fix audio passthrough).

Yes it's important to install and use Kodi Backup. It's in the Kodi repository but is not installed by default, so you have to install it yourself. I always make a backup whenever I make changes. You can restore a Kodi backup to any version Kodi 17, Kodi 18 or even SPMC.

I have problem with extended script also. Just pauses the stream and thats it.. I'mon  latest CFW 2.05. Didn't have problem on 2.04  . Is this the same for you and is there a fix,? Have tried to find answers  on cfw thread , but  unable to find  any discussions on this topic there.

It worked on 18 at first but when 18 started crashing I had to uninstall it. So I'm now on 17.5.1 and, sadly,  ExtendedInfo Script fails yet again  >:(.

After all of the crashes we've had recently, I'm reluctant to try 18 again.

I've just tested a bunch of movies with version 17.5.1 and got sound from every one of them with the Kodi player (stereo setup). Some movies are 2.0, some 5.1.

For some reason no matter which version of Kodi I install, every time I turn the box on or reboot, somehow Kodi 17.5 is installed and crashes every time and I cannot install any other version over it. I have to totally uninstall Kodi every time I want to use it.

I also somehow lost the ability to connect to my PC over my workgroup.  It no longer shows when I try to add it.  Worked fine on every previous version of Kodi, but even when I install 16.1 Jarvis, my workgroup never appears.  No clue why.

I am having a similar issue.
Just updated Kodi to 17.5.1. It installed fine. InstalledOne Alliance 3.1.6. It installed fine. Now Kodi keeps will not open. I get a message App stopped. I am getting the same on both my Android boxes. HiMedia Q10 Pro and Zidoo X9S.  To add insult to injury, I can not downgrade to 17.4. I get a message that 17.4 is not compatible with my boxes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks..

We are not the only ones.... Kodi 17.5 is a dud.   >:(
I found 17.4 would not re-install.
* First turn off PlayStore update (this is what caused mine to update to 17.5 when I'd just got 17.4 working fine again).
* Download the fixed 17.5.1 directly from Kodi Downloads (as PlayStore is not updated yet):
https://kodi.tv/download-thanks?u=http%3A%2F%2Fmirrors.kodi.tv%2Freleases%2Fandroid%2Farm%2Fkodi-17.5.1-Krypton-armeabi-v7a.apk
Install and run.
My Kodi 17.5.1 is working fine again (and so is the wrapper).  Happy again  ;D

I got fed up trying to fix 17.5 and went straight to 18 alpha1, everything seems to be working fine for now but i have an issue, i get a warning all the time that i have unauthorized repos on my kodi, any way i can get rid of that warning ?
I may give SPMC 17.4rc1 a try also and see if it suits me better, any config details regarding sound output i should know? Also if wrapper is enabled it will be for both kodi and spmc or i should copy the file manually to spmc directory?

For SPMC, it is in a different directory from Kodi so you do need to copy the wrapper settings over (and it works fine with SPMC as well).
