Title: Formatting internal HDD
Post by: ivaylo on September 02, 2015, 09:31:41 AM
I fitted a new 3TB WD HDD inside my Q10 but it doesn't' get recognised. Does the HDD need to be formatted prior to being fitted or can the formatting be done by Q10 or a laptop using the slave USB port?

The drive needs to be formatted using a PC. Android devices cannot format hard drives.

Format to NTFS or EXT2.

You can try formatting by connecting to your PC using the SLAVE USB at the back of the box. Then it will depend on how your PC is working with 3TB HDD.

Formatting with the slave USB didn't work as the drive is not visible. I guess the player needs to see the drive first before making it visible through the slave USB port on the back.

I had to borrow a SATA-USB adapter to format the HDD and everything works now. Thanks.

I believe 3tb hard drive is one of the worst hard drive you can get ;). I don't thing if there is any problem with formatting :'( my strong recommendation is either buy 2tb or 4tb.

Please share step-by-step format procedure for 3TB.
What partition? GTP or MBR disk?
Thank you in advance.
