Title: Help required
Post by: gizmops on September 25, 2017, 10:33:16 AM
Hi all. Just got my Q10 at the weekend direct from Futeko Manchester. Quick Start guide states how to remove unwanted apps. Followed instructions up to    press cancel button. There is no cancel button on the supplied remote. Trying to get rid of Skype and Super Child lock. Skype is uninstalled and SCL L is disabled
Also setting app as default requires     default start  from menu button. There is no default start option from menu button.

You can uninstall useless apps like Skype and Facebook using the Menu key ... but they will be reloaded next time you reboot your box  >:(. It's in HiMedia's interest that they stay there  ;). The other useless app is MovieBar. I don't have a single Chinese movie on my box and have no intention of buying any, yet MovieBar identifies about a quarter of my videos as being Chinese! It has no user settings that are of any use. Kodi may have its faults but it's 100 times better than MovieBar!
If you really want Skype and Facebook uninstalled permanently you need to install pcristi's custom firmware:

You can set up any app to start automagically if you go to the list of apps and press the Menu key. You will get 2 options: Default (or set as default - it launches the app after booting) and Uninstall. I am using pcristi's CFW and I can remove apps for good. Be advised that the launcher will display the icons of the default apps when upgrading the app that replaced it. This can be done by pressing the Menu key on the remote and choosing a new app. Be careful not to replace the button that shows all the apps with one app. If you make any mistakes with assigning apps on the launcher, go to Settings -> Apps, look for Launcher 3D and delete its data. You should see the default app placement on the Launcher and you can start again to replace the apps. You should carefully read the FAQ http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1517.0

... can remove apps for good...

But not the 'One-Click Access' (just what is the point of this app???) and 'MovieBar' apps  >:(! They are deeply rooted!

To get rid of these I had to use a combination of 'Titanium Backup' and 'SuperSU' plus the' Root SuperSU via LAN' patch.

These apps take up minimal space. Having them installed is of little disadvantage.

But if an app has no possible use why should it take up ANY space? Get rid of them!

As a newbie with the New Q10 pro and pre installed factory software it seems a bit scary to have to install pchristi s custom software patch.
The Q10 has android 7 kernel version.3.18.24 and Kodi 17.4
Should I try this patch. Its all a learning curve for me but I don't want to mess the Q10 up.

Installing pcristi's firmware is quite easy and I would recommend it.

I do not know where you clicked, but link are good for me. I started with the link for pcristi's custom firmware on the FAQ page that points to this topic http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=812.0. Here you can find a link to his Mediafire folder, where there is an Android 7.0 folder that contains custom firmware for all official firmwares. Grab the 2.0.5 custom firmware, copy it on a FAT32 USB stick with name update.zip and follow the update instructions you pasted (steps 1 to 8 ).
