Would be nice to have changelogs with new firmwares.

In future there will be changelogs. This firmware is the first (public) for the H8.
-
Sounds good, thanks.
-
Next firmware is due soon. Possibly end of this week.
Amongst other things, it will feature DTS, AC3 and 7.1 TrueHD passthrough in Kodi.
-
Looking forward to it!

Futeko ara't in control of what goes into the Firmware, They are just the retailer.. It's Himedia you need to e-mail for feature requests...
But YAY.!! to the update.. :)
-
But for sure they have better and direct contact...
-
We welcome people posting on the forum about bugs and feature requests for firmware. We talk to Himedia most days and going through us will probably get a better result than trying to email directly.
We have a test version of firmware 1.0.6 which I will test tomorrow to see if it fixes mencwelp's requests. If not I'll pass it onto Himedia.
Apologies for the slow reply. Had to deal with ill (mildly - not a problem really - only for nursery) child today.!
-
Is there any news as to when we might see a new firmware.
1.0.4 seems to have some major issues that cripples almost any data heavy footage across the network.

Should be later this week. 1.0.4 is the first firmware release and I agree it has problems. The beta we have is 1.0.6 and is much better in the areas we've tested.

I found a workaround for external subtitles. Must be encoded with UTF-8 to display in media center. But no diacritics.
Strange thing is that the player used by media center is showing any subtitle line only for 3 seconds.
Its some kind of strange limitation.
Any advice?
-
Did they already adressed the wmv-playback issues on the new Firmware?

Yes, I think so. We have a collection of sample files, the WMV samples did not play correctly with 1.0.4 and now play normally. I'm happy to test any sample files if you post URLs.

Not sure. Will ask Himedia and report back tomorrow.

Thank you for sharing this information.
There are many suppliers pushing boxes with RK3368 chip. One of them, Zidoo, seems to understand at least what I see at the Kodi forum, that they need to deliver a performance
before customers going to buy it. You have experience with the Q5/10 so use this in your advantage.. please focus on market demands.
Good luck.
Marcel.

Zidoo are in fact the old Kaiboer. Some good products, some bad. Not much based on Android.
Himedia have more experience of Android boxes produced specifically for video than anyone else. I trust Himedia.

Playing m2ts in Kodi.
Same file stuttering in media center, big audio delay.
-
I've got my H8 last week and it has problems with Kodi 15.0/15.2/16.x
Videos are stuttering from local disk and network, independent of
audio passthrough or PCM-mixdown. As noticed passthrough gives audio-dropouts
every few seconds (with 23.975 fps videos). mixdown gives clean audio, but
stuttering of the video remains.
With MediaPlayer videos play perfect, but the GUI of MediaPlayer is much
too basic compared to Kodi.
So we need an MediaPlayer-wrapper for Kodi urgently!!!!
Please press Himedia to deliver one!
Or does the new firmware solve these problems?
When can we download the new firmware?
If the problems will not be solved, the H8 is useless for a living room
and a no-nerd person (=my wife... :-) )
-
The 1.0.4 firmware was the first for H8 and is not great, I know.
We are waiting for new firmware. We have a beta version but it's not final and Himedia are not allowing us to release it publically. The new firmware is much better in all respects.
-
thanks for the update.
the picture quality of the H8 with the internal MediaCenter is great
and I hope the new firmware will correct the problems with Kodi.
Or do you thing the Kodi-development has to change something
to get rid the problems?
What is your assumption when a new firmware will be released?

Hallo,
Strange that a manufacture doesn't allow you to share a certain software. I guess as manufacture you want to sell the much boxes as possilbe with a decent software. The sooner the software is at a certain level the more potential. The more people reporting bugs the better I would say. Keep the doors closed will not generate sales...
Look at ZIDOO, hopefully not the same story as Xtreamer in the past, at lot of promises and potential buyers based on spread information.
So what bugs are HIMEDIA solving?
Marcel.

ZIDOO are Kaiboer. They've been selling media players and android boxes for years. They do not have a spectacular record with firmware updates. I appreciate that they're all over the internet right now with a massive promotional effort, but until they have a track record behind them I advise people to be sceptical.
Himedia have a record of good hardware and the best firmware. Going right back to the Realtek media players 5+ years ago.
I trust Himedia to come up with the best firmware for RK3368 and I have seen two betas already indicating good progress. These are not public betas, I am sorry about that.
If anyone wants to return an H8 then email us. You can return within 14 days no questions asked.
-
I like the box and the design of the unit but it's simply not very good at what it's made for, being a media player.
I really hope they update us with a new firmware soon as I've gone back to my SkyNow box that is working just fine.
The main reason I need to change from the Now box is so I can use local USB drives for the ISO support.
-
My list of problems:
1. Passtrough in Kodi - audio droputs every 4-5 sec DTS, DD 5.1, video ok
- DTS-HD audio dropouts, video crash
2. HiMedia Player - DTS-HD good, video good, no external subtitles (via samba)
3. Mx Player Pro - Plays almost everything with DTS, DD 5.1, external subtitles (via samba)
- Heavy stuttering DTS-HD both video-audio
4. DVD-ISO not working
-
Seems that Himedia is targeting Q5/Q10 for firmware developing.
No interes in H8 Octa .

That's simply not true.
Himedia will continue to release firmware for both. If anything expect more firmware development for H8 because it is newer and there are more things to fix.
-
What is your assumption when a new firmware will be released?
One vote from me.
I have a deja-vu Xtreamer saga.
Lost my 14 days return policy, because i read here about a firmware coming "later last week".
And yes, im dumb.
-
I'm Italian so I apologize for the errors, after upgrading to 1.0.6 do not work more iso 3d why ..?

1.0.6 is not an official release. See 1.0.6 thread for more info.
-
Thank you answer the firmware I downloaded from the official site HIMEDIA you is that the ISO 3d not play or is it just my problem ...?

1.0.6 is not an official release. I appreciate that it's on the Himedia site and you're welcome to try it, but it's not official from us.
For 3D ISO I recommend going back to 1.0.4, the most recent official release.
-
Ok thanks, I wanted to ask i read on the web that Q5 and best video quality of the H8 is right ......?
-
futeko,
That's strange a manufacure is releasing a certain software and you as official reseller is mentioning that's not the official update! So when will there be an official update from Himedia/Futeko?
And more important, what will be the road map to solve all the open issues? Sorry to say this , with experience of the existing Q5/Q10 it can't be that difficult to provide at least a full blown software. Or is Rockchip the problem?
Don't understand me wrong, I am not complaining.
-
This has got to be the worst 'media player' I've ever bought.
Not only does it not support DTS very well, it can't even play video and audio at the same rate! You have to pause a video every few mins just to sync the sound again. And that's from an external drive.
When it comes to streaming via the network it causes even more problems, mainly due to nothing supporting any type of cache.
Using a simple Android tablet is better than this thing!
This is clearly not fit for purpose and we should not have to buy a product that isn't even finished and by the look of things has already been stuck on the top shelf as Himedia can't even get it to work right.
It's taught me a good lesson, don't by crap and always wait for others with more cash to waste their money!

http://himediatech.com/support.htm
Is this official Himedia site?
Firm 1.0.6 is online in this site....
-
Yes, DTS and DD 5.1 are badly out of sync with 1.0.6.
And with 1.0.4, "the most recent official release" have audio dropouts every 2-3 seconds.
-
I apologise for there not being a perfect firmware release yet but it is to a great extent out of our control. We are a reseller and not the manufacturer. We continue to push Himedia to get a perfect release out.
The himediatech site is official Himedia, I have asked them why they have published 1.0.6 and they say that, regardless of it being imperfect, they want to show progress. That same release was given to us as beta a few weeks ago. In my opinion it is best viewed as a beta, we certainly won't be publishing it as final. We await improved firmware, and what 1.0.6 does show is that the firmware is at least being improved.
Himedia have an excellent record with firmware and this won't be an exception.
Or is Rockchip the problem?
The fact that H8 and Q5/Q10 use completely different chipsets is more relevant. The HiSilicon Hi3798C in Q5/Q10 has been aeound for about 15 months, so loads of time to get it working well. The RK3368 in H8 has been around for 2 months.
Anyone who's unhappy is welcome to return the product for refund. Email us. mail@futeko.com.
-
Are these some excuses for selling a broken box?
Nice again from you.
Im not mad but why do you sell a box with so many bugs?
Audio not working, same to video, no subtitles.
Showing us "some progress" like 1,0.6 results in a more broken box.

dorol, in the year we've had this forum I don't remember ever banning a forum member. But...
Read what I've said, I can't add more and we can't do more as a retailer.
You posting the same thing over and over again every day is not helping anyone.
Actually, I'm 99% sure you're not a customer of ours at all so I am going to ban you. You've made out you were our customer throughout, which was rather deceitful.
Email us on mail@futeko.com if I'm wrong and you want reinstating.
-
dorol was not our customer but has been unbanned. Constructive posts are welcome.

I can not understand why an experienced manufacturer as Himedia not makes a decent firmware
-
I can not understand why an experienced manufacturer as Himedia not makes a decent firmware
Because RK3368 is new so Himedia need to re-write everything from scratch.
And some bugs will be coming from RK3368 and will require updates from Rockchip.
It's always like this with new products. The first firmwares for Q5/Q10 were pretty shaky.
-
I have to say in the defence of Futeko it does exactly what it says on their sales website with the firmware that they supply and support. Someone else on the forum jumped in and posted the new firmware that appears to be causing everyone a problem..
The issue is that everyone appears to expect more... It's worth noting that HiMedia do not claim to support DTS audio or Dolby Digital on their site.
Myself, I'm hoping for a firmware release with everything working in Kodi, 3D, DTS-HD, Atmos etc.. But that is NOT what is being advertised here... Hopefully it will come in time with future updates...

Having a little subtitles problem in Mx Player Pro when using HW.
If movie has internal subtitle i cant disable it.
So if i load an external subtitle is showing two subtitles.
Unchecking internal subtitles in Mx settings not solve the problem.
Using HW+ solved the two subtitles problem but video is stuttering and no DD, DTS, DTS HD sound.
Also, using HW i cant switch between audio tracks.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe try
Archos Video Player
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.archos.mediacenter.videofree or
BSPlayer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bsplayer.bspandroid.free&hl=en
both have subtitle settings and both support AC3/DTS audio.

Still no ETA for the new international firmware? Its promised since weeks
-
We still wait. Himedia won't give me a firm ETA, except that it's coming soon.
My take on the delays is that there has been a lot of recent development from Rockchip on RK3368 Kodi. Himedia could have pushed out a firmware by now, but it would be superseded by a new and much better firmware very quickly. Better to integrate as much of the new Kodi work as possible before releasing for public judgement.
