Title: DTS-HD, DTS-HiRes, Dolby True HD, Dolby Atmos passthrough
Post by: TheSound on July 17, 2017, 09:14:07 AM
Dear Futeko,

refering to your topic regarding this in the FAQ:

"* Get 5.1 audio passthrough working in Kodi 17? Kodi 17 changed how it handles audio passthrough meaning that it is currently broken on Q5/Q10 Pro (as at 25-APR-17). This will be fixed and future firmware will have full HD-Audio passthrough (inc 7.1)."

In the meantime with Kodi 17.3 all required system / audio menu items to enable passthrough for all of the Blue ray sound types are available to allow passthrough, not using the wrapper.

Is this an issue of Kodi or Mediaplayer Hardware? Or both?

Best regards, Holger

The options to toggle passthrough are available in Kodi, but they do not work.

The best you can get with Kodi internal player on Q5/Q10 Pro at the moment is 5.1 passthrough using standard Kodi on pcristi custom firmware or 5.1 passthrough using Kodi 'shitty' builds on official firmware.

it's kodi issues , kodi support only mediacodec so the HD audio is limited to few device.
Other player like plex , mx player, archos support HD audio with  Q5/Q10 Pro and lot of other box .

Thanks for the answers, it becomes clear now for me.

So... what can we expect from Kodi then in the future? Is there a chance, that the Kodi passthrough capability for HD sound is fixed / extended, that it will work with Q10pro, too?

Best regards, Holger

Dear Futeko team,

can you pls answer this question? Is an estimation possible, when full passthrough (also for Atmos) could be possible, from himdia and kodi side?

Best regards, Holger

As said in other topics it's not sure when of if this problem will be fixed in the near future, it's a HiSilicon (and other manufacturers) issue that will not be fixed just for Kodi. There are plenty of other player apps that don't have this problem is their opinion, so please don't wait on it. If you want to use Kodi 17 with full audio spectrum try a compatible player like Nvidia Shield.
