Is this out already?
Does it do 3d iso and hd audio 7.1 (atmos?) as well in kodi? with wrapper?
-
Anyone knows? Futeko?
-
This Vietnamese site is claiming that it has DTS-HD, TruHD support for passthrough..
http://androidtvboxhimedia.blogspot.co.uk/2015/07/himedia-h8-iv-android-box-tai-quan-1-tp.html
If you run the page through google translate you'll see.. Although it may well be that the firmware for that part of the world is different so i wouldn't rely on that.. Who knows, i guess we'll find out next week when these guys get their stock in.! Hopefully anyway.

Some mod can move this to the H8 forum part?
-
Moved..
3D ISO - yes.
Info from Himedia today:
No hardware audio decode. So reliant on software decode. This might not be a problem because it's a powerful chipset.
5.1 DTS and Dolby AC3 HDMI passthrough.
7.1 DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD no HDMI passthrough.

To answer questions yet to be asked:
Pre-installed Kodi is 14.2. 15+ can be installed without problems.
Hardware video decoding is built into Kodi for RK3368 (see here: http://kodi.wiki/view/Android_hardware) so performance should be excellent.
Himedia may create a wrapper for Kodi to launch hardware player as a back-up in case some formats aren't supported in Kodi.
Pre-installed apps are the same as latest Q5 firmware.
Interface is almost the same as latest Q5/Q10.
-
No 7.1 truehd or dts-hd?
Dammit!
Would have bought it otherwise.
Box looks good but 3d iso and 7.1 truehd and dts-hd is a must!
-
Damm.. :(

I am told that no HD-Audio is a limitation of the Rockchip chipset.
For high-end video the Q5/Q10/M3 products are better. The H8 is better for gaming and the 4K 60fps niche.
Once the boxes arrive we'll test HD-Audio properly. Despite what Himedia tell me I can't see why 5.1 audio would pass but 7.1 wouldn't. We'll know next week..
-
Do you know if the H8 will work the same way as the Q5 does with the HiMediaWrapper and external player.?

Do you know if the H8 will work the same way as the Q5 does with the HiMediaWrapper and external player.?
Initially it won't. Whether a wrapper and external player will be useful for the H8 will depend on whether there are significant differences in format support + performance between Kodi internal and the hardware app. RK3368 is listed on the Kodi wiki as being supported for hardware decoding so the differences should be minimal making a wrapper unnecessary.
However, I have requested that Himedia provide a wrapper for H8 as a back up. So full hardware decoding from the hardware app is an option. It won't be hard for them to create a wrapper app for H8 so I expect that they'll do it.

mmm very strange decision to bring it out then, cause in my eyes , its a step backwards not providing hd audio.

Well, if you want 3d iso to be played from within kodi, you need that wrapper cause kodi doesnt support 3d iso (mvc)
But if We use the wrapper it wont have 7.1 hd audio..
So indeed m3 or q5 is still the one to go, pity though cause this chip is faster for games and 4k..
Guess we'll have to wait for another generation or take q5
But then i hope they sort bugs out..
I want a second device, but the q5 audio drops must be solved first

It's a different type of box for Himedia. One not so media orientated. Some people will prefer it.

I'd agree with that..
and the Vietnamese sites are still claiming that it does DTS-HD and Dolby Atmos. Here's a different one:

My information is direct from talking to Himedia.
Also, other RK3368 products do not claim 7.1 or ATMOS.

official english site of himida NOT report Audio HD http://www.himediatech.com/h8core.html, and the must import RK3368 not have ExpressX Display Processing (Imprex Processing Engine) for better picture quality!
NOTE: there is also Dolby Digital EX and Dolby Digital Plus relesed before dolby TrueHd have support 7.1 ,so it's support 7.1 it's not equal have support audio HD.
-
The interesting thing is that Himedia are not claiming ANYTHING regarding the audio capabilities on their website...

H8 support Adjust display refresh rate to match video 24/50/60 and 23.976 fps with KODI? ;D

SPMC?
there is this file?
Auto-framerate switching for Rockchip
(Needs 666 on /sys/class/display/display0.HDMI/mode)
-
Doesn't appear to work with SMPC 15. SPMC probably needs updating for RK3368.

Kodi-15.1 (support auto refresh rate switchingh ) http://www.freak-tab.de/wasser/kodi-15.1-lollipop-wasser.apk (http://www.freak-tab.de/wasser/kodi-15.1-lollipop-wasser.apk)

I assume that I need to deinstall first existing Kodi before installing this file? Can't install existing file, something is wrong with this file or need the deinstall existing version.
Someone experience?
Regards,
Marcel

You to uninstall existing Kodi first. So Settings - More - Apps - Kodi - Uninstall.
