Title: sound issues
Post by: pele on May 10, 2017, 03:56:40 PM
Hi,

Hopefully there is someone in this forum who can explain what goes wrong (or even not possible).

My config:
AVR Denon x3000
Samsung  ue48hu7500 led tv
AVR <==  hdmi arc ==> TV  with
Himedia q10 pro <== hdmi ==> AVR

Settings Himedia playback
HDMI output : auto
SPDIF output : raw
HBR output : auto

Playing movie:
wrapper (internal )
AVR output display : dts-HD MA
AVR info:  sound dts-hd mstr and signal : dts-hd-mstr

kodi videoplayer:
no sound (lot of noise)
AVR output display : none
AVR info:  sound dts neo:x cinema and signal : pcm

kodi sound settings:
audio passthrough : on
dts : on
truehd : on
dts-hd : on

So with above setting i can play the movie with sound only wiht the internal videop player.

I changed one setting:
kodi sound setting dts-hd : off

then the move produce sound  with the kodi player.

Output settings:
AVR output display : dts
AVR info:  sound dts surround and signal dts

Internal player (wrapper)
AVR output display : dts-hd ma
AVR info:  sound dts -hd mstr and signal dts-hd mstr

i don't understand why i can't the movie with kodi wiht sound setting dts-hd :on.
because as far as i know the AVR can play this.

There's actually al lot of topics about this issue, in kodi forums and android powered tv box forums. There's nothing wrong with your setup. it's just the change Kodi made with the latest update to 17 Krypton, they update there software to the latest audio standards and only one standard. In previous versions it was compatible with more standards so but this was to complicated for developers.  Unfortunately the audia passthrough like DTS-HD, Thue HD and Atmos are no longer working with a lot of android tv boxes like Himedia now. We have to wait on a FW update to fix this issue, i hope they will fix this soon. Until then you have to use Wrapper in order to use high quality audio streams.

I'd suggest changing audio settings to (not using Auto) RAW, RAW and RAW7.1.
As noted above, use the "wrapper" for Kodi playback and your HD audio should all pass fine  :)

Sorry, but HD audio never worked in KODI, not even with the most stable 16.1 on this Box, cause it was simply not implemented. KODI 17 has HD audio implemented, but -as you wrote this time correctly- it's not compatible with current Himedia firmwares.

(It's not for japing, juts for the correct info...)
