HiMedia have informed us that the next Android 7 firmware is delayed until ~ end March due to more work being required from HiSilicon (Q5/Q10 Pro chipset manufacturer and HiMedia partner company).
We have requested a list of what will be fixed from HiMedia in this firmware and will update this thread when we have it.
The delay is disappointing but it's better in the long run if the firmware ends up delivers what users want.
In the meantime there will be a new Q5/Q10 Pro Android 5.1 firmware today (1.1.0) with a new Media Center poster function and some useful bug fixes.
-
It is ok for me. A better firmware is always worth the wait, but this is my opinion formed in years of having rushed firmwares on some of the devices I used in time. Patience is golden :D
-
Thank you for informing us. I will be patient and wait, no matter how tempting downgrading and installing the new Android 5.1 1.1.0 firmware is! 8)
-
I'll be delighted if this list of the changelog includes the implementation of AudioTrack v24 or higher, so we can utilise kodi 17's audio passthrough.
Thanks for lettings us know.
Will you add the firmware link to the main thread "Q10pro firmware". I'll bookmark this thread for convenient sake.

thanks for the update

Will the new firmware 5.1 work on the Q10 (a300) from kdlinks? Are they ever going to get to android 5.1? I dont' want to brick the box if it doesn't work.
-
We can wait for a quality firmware to come out. ;)

Maybe after 3 months subtitles problems are fixed.

No it definitely won't. A300 is based on the previous generation HiMedia Q10 (4K3D or quad). This forum: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?board=2.0
You will brick the A300 trying to install Q10 Pro firmware on it.

Same here as the changelog on the recent 5.1.1 hasn't addressed anything for me for kodi 17.
I'll try android 7 firmware again if it includes audiotrack v24+.... Oh and being able to change the default launcher (surely that'll be fixed fingers crossed)..

I've only been able to use the wrapper once. The sound was so much fuller, but now it never works. Is this a bug? Using Android 7 & kodi 17

No bug. Full HD 7.1 audio passthrough works fine with both versions of Android and Kodi, using the wrapper.
Reinstall the wrapper if it is not working for you. See the FAQ.
I even got the wrapper to work with SPMC (see separate thread).

Wrapper is not working with streams!
Wrapper was not designed to be used with streams and will never work with streams.
Add-ons and streams need Kodi internal player.

Yes pity :(

Today we are on march 29, end od the month and waiting , erally waiting for the new Android 7 firmware....
-
Dont expect too much from the new release. For shure there are new bugs in it. Sorry Futeko, its the ususal experience here. :(

We wouldn't need the wrapper if AudioTrack v24 or higher was patched to the firmware by HiMedia. Once added to the firmware, internet streams in kodi will be able to use audio passthrough in kodi' s own native player. SO COME ON HiMedia.

I don't know to exist Android media player device with perfect FW, not event a smartphone/tablet device running Android far to have perfect FW.
For smartphone/tablet from time to time are release Android device with FW witch can be consider good enough for needs of users and always updating to new Android version come with 6-9 month of fixing problems with some luck.
For Android media player still searching...

Yet you continue to buy HiMedia. Why?
Because they are better than the alternatives.
-
No, because my goal is still met. I do not watch 3D videos on DVD, and existing bugs I can handle individually. But this is not all buyers are willing to do.
-
It is the end of the month, so here is an update.
We have a test 2.0.3 firmware for Q10 Pro which is going to require some more work before becoming an official release.
If you are interested links are below.
ONLY INSTALL THIS FIRMWARE IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING. IT SHOULD BE POSSIBLE TO RECOVER FROM ANY BRICKAGE, BUT IT MIGHT REQUIRE DISASSEMBLY OF THE Q10 PRO TO FORCE RECOVERY.
All feedback appreciated. It will get sent to HiMedia.
The firmware doesn't fix some key bugs. It also has a problem with Imprex, so Imprex has been disabled intentionally.
Changelog (direct from HiMedia - no corrections):
1: Fixed the issue of occasional failure while powering off;
2: Fixed the issue of occasional blurred-screen in Wallposter;
3: Fixed the issue of not displaying full screen while playing online videos;
4: Fixed the issue of occasional blank screen while playing local videos;
5: Fixed the issue of reporting video error while playing local videos;
6: Optimized system compatibility with different APKs;
7: Optimized WI-FI stability;
8: Added more output resolution modes;
9: Supported Wallposter for local videos;
10: Supported the Airplay on iOS 10.3;
11: Updated the latest Hisilicon SDK, presenting a more stable system and better display;
12: Updated Media Center, presenting smoother interface operation;
13: Updated APKs such as Homepage, Application Manager, etc., providing a better operated system.

Thanks futeko!
I will try it, but in case my Q10 Pro bricks, what exactly do you mean by "DISASSEMBLY of the Q10 Pro" ? I know it means opening the box, but are you going to post detailed operations list of what exactly has to be done to recover it?
-
So still no AudioTrack v23 or higher for Kodi 17? :(

No. Also no unusual aspect ratio stretched video fix.
These two bugs are the two biggest but both await work from HiSilicon, which evidently hasn't happened in this SDK.
I haven't tested strenuously for all bugs, so those testing it please test for other specific fixes. For instance, I think the subtitle time gap problem has been fixed, but it needs more thorough testing.

OK, I installed it, and it didn't brick my Q10 Pro , and everything seemed normal after the long setup at the beginning, I started changing my setttings (display, sound, time zone etc) then I logged into my google account to access the Google Store and install some usual apps that I always use with this device, such as Free FTP Server, etc then it started giving me force closes on everything: First Google Store, then the rest.
I rebooted a couple of times, but I am not even able to test audio or video capabilities, because it still force closes on everything, i can start media center but as soon as I access one of my storage drives, it force closes. The most I could do, was to get into a list of video files in one hard drive, but as soon as I tried to start playing any of them, it force closes. So basically the whole Android System seems unstable . I have to go back to 2.0.1 ( I hope I can do that without brickingt it).

It shouldn't be as unstable as that. We tested it with no forced closes at all.
You can install 2.0.1 the same way as any other Android 7 firmware. Restore button method.

UPDATE!
While trying to go back to 2.0.1 I could only achieved a Full wipe and it remained in 2.0.3 , so I tested the media player again and this time it worked. But:
IMPREX engine cannot be switched off! Even If I switch it off, it stayes and I don't like the picture at all.
So It seems that it becomes unstable if you login into a Google account and use Google Store and start installing store apps.
Anyway I will try to install 2.0.1 back, because even if I manage to get it stable, I really do not like the picture quality with the forced IMPREX engine.

I mention that in the opening post.
Imprex is disabled / non-functional in this test firmware. When playing a movie non of the brightness/contrast/etc settings work either.

Maybe I didn't understand you well, otherwise I wouldn't have upgraded, not being able to change contrast/brightness etc is a killer for me. The picture quality was simply horrible, colors were washed away, and for me, video and audio quality are at the top of the list of a multimedia player. By the way I managed to go back to 2.0.1 the picture is great again! Only now I finished installing and customizing my Q10 Pro.

Is it now possible that kodi on the q10pro Dolby atmos exhausted? I have so far 2x q5pro and 2x q10pro I would reluctantly change to the nvidia shield tv. I'm very satisfied with the two options. With the wrapper it is not possible that my philips hue lamps go out at the filmstart. This is very important for my cinema.
friendly greeting

I too are disappointed with the change list. No audiotrack, no mention of being able to change default launcher... Hmm. I find my minix u1's play far better for kodi 17. This was meant to be my main box, and it cost a lot more.. I guess there's no updates yet to when the next firmware will be released and the changes they are changes they are hoping to address?

Official kodi released an update. 17.1, now some audio passthrough works. Only stereo is passing through. No surround sound is working. Not even Dolby Digital AC3. Oh and I notice no Dolby digital transcoding. But transcoding is available on phone version. I still have to patch up to official q10pro firmware.

Are we supposed to get an "official" 2.0.2 or whatever numbering HiMedia is given any time now or is this beta 2.0.3 firmware the promised Android 7.0 update for the end of March ?

The promised official update is delayed. The test firmware I posted on this thread is just to provide a snapshot of where we are at.

I have installed 2.03 on monday and after a few quirks it seemed to be fine.
However starting today i am facing the same crashes as domifier describes.
Looks like stability issues after all, will perform factory reset to see if stability improves.

In my case I had to do a factory reset and not login into my google account, so keep in mind that, in order to maintain it stable, you have to ignore google account , hence not use Google Store or any other Google service at all. ANd even so, the picture quality sucks , for not being able to tweak cotnrast or brightness etc, Everything looks washed out.

Dear Futeko,
I am an Indian buyer of your Q10 Pro delivered around a month back after a wait for whopping 2 months owing to unavailability of stock?
Initial impressions: Not satisfied with Kodi 17 RC. Crashed almost at every alternate run. Video Add-ons not successful. 0/10
Any update on STABLE official version of Kodi 17.1 and the update of FW Android 2.0.3?

You can install standard Kodi 17.1, either from Play Store or the Kodi website.
If no add-ons are working at all then you have wrapper configured for streams. Either disable wrapper entirely (Home - My Apps - Wrapper - Set Kodi player) or follow these instructions to set wrapper for local content / Kodi internal player for streams: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=710.msg13417#msg13417
A better wrapper setup for Kodi 17.1 (as above link - wrapper for local / Kodi internal for streams) will be pre-installed in next Android 7 firmware.

DancesWithChickens, I edited the playercodefactory.xml code in your post because it contained mistakes in the second half. Some kind of pasting typo where the original HiMedia playercorefactory was half pasted at the end.
The edited version is above is the same as in your other post, and looks right to me. As here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=710.msg13417#msg13417
