Title: remote not working in kodi 17.1
Post by: pele on March 22, 2017, 12:13:37 AM
Hi,

i reinstalled the build streamnu but removed it again and installed kodi 17.1 again (thrid time)
Suddenly it said: found new input device, if i want to configure it now or later. I get a game controller :(
It doesn't recognize the standard remote for himedia q10 pro.

Anyone any idea?

Bianca

Should we report this to the develop kodi team?

I use SPMC as a backup for Kodi 17. I still have Kodi 17 installed. This way I can have both versions available.

Kodi 17.1 was working fine earlier today (and had managed update, directory scan and watching a movie until it finished.

Suddenly the message "new controller detected do you want to install" came up.
Answering "yes" gave a Kodi game controller to install.  "No" resulted in no back key or menu keys being operational.
Had to resort to the keyboard to move around menus looking for options.   All the "more options" were games controllers.
There must be a standard format for the remote as this occurred previously in Kodi 17 and I just re-booted to fix the error.  Rebooting does not work now......

i downgraded to kodi-17.1-krypton_rc-armeabi-v7a.apk.

No message about "new controller found"

I've installed the 23 March nightly build of 17.1 and I haven't had any controller problems (yet!). Maybe this has been fixed.

A kindly person on Kodi forum has advised what the remote re-mapping in 17.1 has done:

"Users will get a prompt "New input device found", the remote seems to get recognized as a game controller."
Then "menu" and "back" do not work anymore.

"Back is now "del", for "menu" you have to press and hold "ok".
It is good to know the remote still works, just differently for now.....

Going to update SPMC (see separate thread on installing wrapper for HD audio http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1669.0 ).
Also mention that Archos Video Player appears ok for HD Audio and Auto-switch FPS working (see thread http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1786.0 )

Thx, that kindly person was me.
I just kindly stole the info others posted here and combined it into one post at the KODI forum.

Thanks again @DancesWithChickens  :)
I have already got used to the new remote mapping after playing with some tv episodes.
I will get around to trying to install a nightly in a few days time.  The problem did not happen to me immediately when 17.1 was installed.

No need to uninstall. The nightly version is a later version so will be seen as an update.

Please be aware that the nightly releases may be unstable. Best just for testing.

On that nightly I can go back by either pressing return or del keys on HiMedia remote and either menu button or long press OK gets the menu.

Since i have some free time i backed up my fine working Kodi 16.1 and tried various Kodi Krypton releases.
The 17.1 "stable" (hahahaha), various nightly builds and test builds.

I get the "controller has been detected" message every time.
If i update my music database, every Kodi Krypton version crashes when playing playlists in party mode.

I search through Google, other Krypton users on Android don't have these issues.

So basically Q10 Pro customers are stuck with Kodi 16.

It's just started for me too! I've been installing the nightly builds with no problems but last Saturday I got the same as you when I switched the box on: found new input device;  if I say yes a game controller appears and I go around in circles; if I say no, the remote keys start failing!!!

Just downgraded to 17.1 offical release but the problem continues  :o

Did they define how long "for now" will be????

Until fixed from in Kodi (it is nothing HiMedia have done).
It does not do this in SPMC (which uses Kodi 16 as a base) or any other software.
Some have said a nightly 17.1 version fixed theirs.  So far, it has not fixed mine.....

Updated from 16.1 to latest nightly build, 17.2. RC1:

Wanna try it yourself, get it here:
http://mirrors.kodi.tv/nightlies/android/arm/Krypton/

So far no "controller found" message,
no crashes from music/party mode playback.

So far.

*crosses fingers

edit:
Got the dreaded controller message again after a restart, ffs Krypton.
The message immediately got triggered when i pressed the "return" button on the remote.
This will not change with future Kodi versions, so Himedia have to do sth about it with a future firmware update.

edit 2:
It seems to work if you update, but not with a fresh install.
I installed a fresh version of 16.1, set input settings for mouse/touch to OFF,
copied over my keymaps folder i had backuped, exited/restarted Kodi,
installed the 17.2 RC1 nightly - and now it works.
No controller message, no music crash.

Hello DancesWithChickens,

Can you please sharing your Keymaps file to have test and see if we can use it. Thanks

A guide would be appreciated. I finally took the plunge from 1.09 to the 1.10 firmware and decided to upgrade Kodi from 16.1 to 17.1 or 2 at the same time. First thing I noticed was the menu and back buttons didn't work. Glad to see this issue is known. I found that the del button was now back and thanks to this forum I know to hold the OK button for menu/info. It was driving me nuts not being able to access the menu button to add things to my favorites list. Now I'm afraid to update to Android 7--still using 5.1.

Android 5.1, Kodi 16.1, and firmware 1.09 everything worked great--I should've left well enough alone haha

Thank you for taking the time to make that guide! You also solved another problem I noticed last night after upgrading. Every movie I tried to stream stuttered like crazy. I'll try disabling hardware acceleration like you mentioned in your guide.

I'm thinking of just going back to firmware 1.09/Kodi 16.1/Android 5.1 since that worked good for me. At least until Kodi and new firmware gets sorted. The only reason I upgraded was because Kodi had a message pop up saying everyone would have to upgrade to Kodi 17 since 16 doesn't support https protocol and would no longer support streaming.   :'(

i had some issues with streaming video addons as well, especially media libraries from tv stations.
They only work with Kodi 17.
