Are there users who have Kodi 17 Release Candidate installed?
What is your experience and what firmware and Android version?
-
the biggest problem with Kodi 17 i when you set wrapper player the video ad ons like e***** and youtube from kodi also doesnt play
it tries to open wrapper player but since himedia player doesnt stream the video from video add ons does play at all this is the biggest issue on kodi 17
on kodi 16.1 it works fine
-
and some files i cannot play good in kodi 17 (not wrapper)
in kodi 16 they run without any stuttering
an in spmc as well everything is okai
-
Thanks for the comments. So it is true that E****s gives black screen in Kodi 17.
Probably E****s therefore needs an update?
I hear that Kodi 17 with Android is not working good?
What is your experience?
-
No one use Kodi 17?

Read here:

This thread is full of Kodi 17 experiences.

Kodi 17 and android problems are more about audio compatibility (passthroug, HD)
If you use Himedia wrapper, you should not have much trouble,
except streaming add-on... but there should be a workaround
Kodi 17, without internal player, is fast and sweet to use
-
This post from another thread contains instructions for making wrapper work better with Kodi 17 and streams.
I've tested it and it works:

Thank you!
But are you all now using Kodi 17 or not?
Is it better stay with 16.1 or can I go for 17 RC?

I'm staying on 16.1 because 17 RC doesn't give me any value right now (just problems).

Turn off "hardware acceleration (surface)" in KODI 17 video player settings and everything will play fine.

I had updated to Kodi 17 RC4 which was just released in late January. I am running latest Android 7 firmware (2.0.1).
So far it has worked very well for what I want: quality playback from attached USB drive, internal drive and multiple NAS drives on network.
The new interface is fresh and the default skin quite good.
It removes the duplicated drive names of Kodi 16.1 and they show up with correct names now ;D
I note the official release of Kodi 17 is now on PlayStore from 1st Feb.
Suggest full back-up of Kodi 16 folder so it can be restored if needed.
I have an extensive Kodi library and it all smoothly updated for me.
The wrapper is still working fine for me, so all 1080p full remux of blu-ray videos and 7.1 audio passthrough are working perfectly.
I still use the "0" stop key patch as I got used to it :)
Happy to recommend members here try it out for themselves.

Today I updated Kodi to the official version 17.0, date February 1, as it indicates it is now the official Kodi 17, but still audio pass through doesn't work natively with Kodi's internal player, it still has to be done via wrapper.
-
Playback of any add-ons on Kodi 17 internal player is too choppy unplayable

Does anyone know if it works with optical audio out? I can probably live with another cable, but I cant live with a choice between subs and 5.1 audio.
-
Audio pass through doesn't work on Windows10 too (at least to me).
-
Trailers (when pressing menu on an movie) dont work any more. Nothing happens.
-
Using "shitty" test-builds to get DD/DTS passthrough working, disable only "Mediacodec (surface)", install [PATCH] Auto framerate switching - KODI ADDON, for me YouTube / Plex add-on working proper.

Just some thoughts on Kodi 17 here...
Recently I decided to give it a try on Kodi 17 RC, backup my kodi 16.1 stuffs but the backup are not working well. All the addons will still need to uninstall and re-add again. I also try on some of the repo I usually use like super repo but most of the addon there are not working too. I like some of the subtitle service addon from the repo as it can provide subtitle for streaming content.
For the stuttering issues, I also encounter that when I try to stream some contents from some video addon. Will currently stay on Kodi 16.1 first until there are a more stable release of Kodi 17.

Yes shuttering video playback is a no go on Kodi 17
Surprisingly this is only himedia Q10 problem...I have Zidoo X9s and Kodi 17 video doesn't shutter at all in it
Too bad a box with so much reputation cannot fix this issue which is basic video playback
Audio passthrough is another issue but video shutter is a showstopper
Futeko pls do something and fix it asap
There is no point spending so much money on hiend media box which can't even play video properly let alone audio passthrough
Where other boxes are working fine
-
Noooo.
I have just ordered a q10 pro to replace a minix u1 that lost hardware acceleration due to the s905 processor so some hd over the air media was choppy on kodi 17... I also wanted android n for the native multi window
So I have just forked out extra cash for something I thought was going to be a step up... Sure hope this is fixed otherwise it wont be suitable for use.

again - no issues here with KODI 17 and video playback.

If you use the wrapper then there should be no issues with audio pass through and video play back, further more , if you use HiMedia media center then audio and video playback are really excellent. For me that is the MAIN thing when I brought this device, seeing my movies and videos and audio files in the best quality possible , meaning 4K, HDR, DTS-HD, DOLBY TRUE HD ,. ATMOS etc.
For me having problems with some KODI addons is not really a big issue, if they fix it , great, a nice to have thing, if not I wlll still love this device and have no regrets to have bought it.

I totally agree 8)! The Himedia Q10 is an excellent piece of hardware, let down by amateurish software. When I buy a television, blue-ray player, satellite receiver, sound base, ... I expect it to work 'out of the box' without having to apply countless patches and workarounds :o!!!

Hi all, I'm facing audio passthrough problem after upgrading to Kodi 17 and I tried to find for solution but with no success.
The problem I'm facing is if I enabled "Allow Passthrough" and play video (streaming only) which has DD or DTS soundtrack, it just showed black screen with no sound (but I noticed the video is running). I got no problem if playing local or network files.
I have done the following:
1) Disable "Sync Playback to Display"
2) Select Wrapper
For example, if I'm playing video from **, any videos with DD or DTS soundtrack, I'll got the above problem. If the video contains 2 channels (which I think) soundtrack, then it is fine.
Please take note, I have no problem playing either 720p or 1080p source (very smooth) as long the video audio source is not DD or DTS.
But all not working....fyi, it was working fine when I was in Kodi 16.1.
Can anyone please help?

Yes I would be interested to know also.
People are quick to come and say "fine here" "no issues here" but as we know out of the box it does not work. So it would be helpful if you shared with people what needed to be changed...

A mediaplayer need to work good with Kodi 17, otherwise it is a piece of crap!
I hope HiMedia fix this soon, or they will loose a lot of custumers!

I hardly use the YT addon in KODI anymore since the app is more convenient, but yes, it plays like normal.
Additionally, i tested video addons like 4players, arte (livestream + mediathek), cinetrailer, Tele 5, Twitch.
All videos play fine in general with Q10 Pro, i tested various video and audio formats successfully with KODI + Wrapper
(DD Plus, Dolby Atmos, True HD, DTS HD, mp4, mkv, m2ts, vob, DVD iso, DVD img)

Really?
What a stupid idiotic comment!
The issue is NOT with Kodi, it is with this box.
No issues at all with my Nvidia Shield using Kodi...or minix u1.
This box has a lot of potential but it's not stable enough (currently) to warrant the premium price.
-
And for those who are bitching here about their KODI experience:
My Kodi experience is great, i love it to bits. Its why I bought (another) kodi box. The problem is this box' inability to properly run it, despite being advertised as "Great Kodi compatibility (including Kodi 17)"

Everyone is never happy, I am just saying I have no issues with the shield.
Of course the shield doesn't play 3D iso like the q10 pro does, and it does this AMAZINGLY.
So as it stands I have no box which covers all my needs :'( :D

Wish I had read about this before placing my order. Might contact the online ebay store before they ship it as I would like to think I can return it if its not smooth for the primary reason I bought it. Both local media and streaming sources so appears the rapper does not fix all of th problems. I needed Android itself for my home automation and thought this was a good replacement for my minix u1.
I hope all is fine though, just a little worried now.

You just need to downgrade the player to 1.0.9 apply some community made patches that are available in this forum and you are good to go, everything works. Android 7 doesn't give anything useful to the player anyways right now and Kodi 17 is just a mess as well. Android 5.1 and Kodi 16.1 is a safe and working solution.
-
My experience is the same as many others. Audio pass-through does not work with the internal Kodi player and i just don't like Wrapper. With 16.1 Jarvis everything worked fine but with 17 not. I also had some video stuttering issues but i think this has something to do with the audio problems. For now i went back to 16.1 and i'll wait for a proper solution from Fuketo or Kodi.

The only issue i had with Krypton where crashes when listening to music in party mode.
Installed latest nightly from here:

Issues are gone for me.

" Improved audio support
This is what Kodi says about audio passthrough in their latest Kodi 17 RC 4. Does this help in anyway ?
Same thing with RC4
I think there is something to fix with android 7 build about IEC61937 ??
-
IEC 61937 seems to be SPDIF (optical or coaxial audio out). Has anyone tried this, instead of HDMI passthrough?
edit: doesnt seem limited to spdif, but the question remains. Does optical audio passtrhough work ?

Thing is I bought this box hoping I would get window mode on Android 7. Not that I have seen it in use, but I thought that was a native part of Android 7.
Kodi 16.1 is no longer on google play, as the release candidate of Kodi 17 has been released, so even if I turn the beta testing off then it will still be Kodi 17 now (unless I side load, but I was trying to get away from 16.1 as I like the default skin of 17 more).
I bought this box for the above reasons primarily. My minix u1 worked fine in 16.1 and android 5.1.1 so this is hardly a step up for me then.
But there seems to be some hope to get it working at least. The seller seems to be happy for a return if it doesn't work as hoped.... But I hope it all works.

Hello .. I am new here and I need some help
After I upgraded my KODI to v17 from PlayStore, and after the migration process is complete, I could not find my external HDD in USB3, but if I run MediaCenter, my existing HDD in USB3 can be detected and I can access for play the movie.
Please help.. what should I do so that my HDD can be detected in KODI v17.
I'm still with Android 5.1.1
Thanks in advance

You should be able to locate your drive at it's mountpint regardless of whether the Android/Kodi combination sees it correctly.
So select 'Root filesystem' in Kodi and then (from FAQ):
* Drive mount location? All apps except the HiMedia file browser and player use Android file structure. All directories and locations are subdirectories of root, which is symbolised as /. This is different for Android 5.1 and Android 7 firmwares. For Android 5.1: External drives are located at /mnt/sda/sda1 (Q10 Pro internal HDD only) and /mnt/sdb/sdb1 then /mnt/sdb/sdb2 etc (all USB drives). For Android 7: External drives are located at /mnt/media_rw/sda1 (Q10 Pro internal HDD only) and /mnt/media_rw/ (all USB drives)
-
Below is from Kodi 17 post... I think Himedia has to implement Audiotrack v23 as mentioned below in Android. Then the Highres audio pass through should work..
HiMedia are back now from CNY holiday and are looking into this. They'll fix it.

Another question..
If I play my movie with KODI Player (not Wrapper Player), the audio passtrough not working, the audio output still PCM 2 channel, I've set the audio for HDMI to RAW and HBR to RAW 7.1. with Wrapper Player audio passtrough working fine but for the subtitles in italic format does not work, in KODI player subtitles with italic format working fine, the subtitle is SSA subtitle and embedded in the movie.
I will try to upgrade to android 7.0 I hope this problem can solved with android 7.0

but which build will solve problem with outputting hdr 23p? kodi 17 have normal aspect ratio with Lucy, but no bitstream and no hdr...
Nvidia shield with kodi 17 can output hdr 23p!

The wrapper is utter crap, sure it gives you multichannel audio, but the movies are riddled with artifacts and that kills the experience don't matter if its 1080P or 4K, its the same with everything. and thats not just Q10 Pros dilemma, every moviebox that runs a wrapper for Android have similar problems.
And theres no mouse support in the wrapper just the remote and thats not good either. My receiver does a pretty good job att decode 2.0 to multichannel so its way better then before. but it would be nice if the wrapper worked or even better that we got a dedicated player like Kodi hardcoded in the firmware.

There must be something wrong with your video settings? All the wrapper does is shell from Kodi to the built-in MediaPlayer so it overcomes any shortcomings from Kodi (like audio passthrough and 3D).
I can not see how you can blame the wrapper for creating artifacts. This is usually either from the video source or the tv playback settings.
I use my Q10Pro daily for video, including many remuxed Blu-ray movies with 7.1 audio and have not had any artifact issues (ever).
Have you tested your files using MediaCenter? Do you get the same artifact issues using Archos or MX Player?
Are you feeding it from a network NAS or something performing needless transcoding (like Plex)?
-
The wrapper is utter crap
Wrapper playback is identical to Himediaplayer Android app. Quality is very good.
-
Kodi 17.4 is available to upgrade from the PlayStore.
It fixes a few Kodi bugs and seems quite stable (especially when used with wrapper for video playback). Has not change the "joystick control" settings (like 17.1 did) so all is good for normal remote control use.
