Title: Problem with most Flac 5.1
Post by: omega3 on January 11, 2017, 01:50:12 AM

As the title says, when I use Himedia Music Player, or Hibimusic, or any other music player,  it doesn't correctly pass through most of my Multichannel Flac files...

I have a Q10 Pro connected to an AVR (Denon X2300W) via HDMI 2.0a

I have some multichannel (5.1)  24/48 and 24/96 files, and most of them are downmixed to 2.0 Stereo when played... In Other Settings/Audio I have HDMI RAW, SPDIF RAW, and 7.1 RAW.

My AVR shows in a prompt that it receives PCM 2.0 input.

Only a few of my multichannel flacs are correctly pass through to my AVR as Multi Channel IN, and they are seen by my AVR as PCM 3.2.1 input.

My previous media player was a Popcorn Hour C200, it never suffered any of these problems.

Any chance of a sample file?

I have a Denon AVR1610 and I get 5.1 from all the multi-channel FLAC samples I have here. Your settings are correct for the Q10 Pro.

I've found same problem. Flac 5.1, DSF 5.1 are downgrading to 2.0.  No idea which player use and how set it to output multichannel via HDMI or Coaxial.

FLAC 5.1 audio (including 24bit/192Khz) certainly passes fine to my Yamaha AVR from both MediaCenter and Kodi (via wrapper).
This includes Pure Audio and SACD rips to FLAC.  Perhaps re-check all your settings and try another HDMI cable?

There is a "quirk", however (noted on a previous thread) for videos with FLAC 7.1 audio (that has remained in current Android 7 firmware):
the audio track only passes correctly as 7.1 when there is a second audio track present in the mkv video stream (like AC3 or DTS).  As a single audio track, it is strangely down-converted to 2.0  ???

I'm having this same problem, too. 5.1 FLACs are downmixed to 2.0 (though the sample rate is retained correctly).

The test file is downloaded from here.

(Arnesen: MAGNIFICAT 4. Et misericordia 5.1 surround)

When I play the file above, my AVR shows 96kHz, 2.0.0

This is the direct link

My settings are the same as the OP's.
HDMI: RAW
HBR: RAW 5.1

I connect to my AVR using the same HDMI cable that came bundled with HiMedia.

Could anyone try this?

I was able to download and test the sample as requested.  Kodi 17 only played for me in 2 channel (as it did for you).
However, the built-in MediaCenter played the sample in perfect 5.1  ;D so it may be an issue with Kodi audio.

I also tried SPMC (which is a fork of Kodi 16) but it also only played in stereo.  I am yet to get SPMC to play movies in 7.1 so it probably needs the wrapper installed for correct audio passthrough.
VLC player only did stereo as well.
Assuming the next Android 7 firmware update fixes IEC audio standard (like it was supposed to when originally released) Kodi should start to work without requiring the wrapper (which passes audio and video nicely through to the in-built HiMedia player).
