I experienced the same problem, also a lot of my iso's refused to play.  So I thought, lets update to Android 7 which didn't help a bit.

After downgrading to 5.1 (with fw 1.08) everything is playing flawlessly.

Did you run the app wrapper? there you can set then internal player in Kodi for certain sources. It creates a xml in you user dir in Kodi playercorefactory.xml.
If you have the ISO on an PC or NAS from which you want to play don't forget to put user and password also in the app.

From there it should be fine.

i have installed the older firmware (1.0.8)to see if it works with it but the problem is the same. Can it be a hardwareproblem?

As ES Explorer is able to view the files, I would expect Kodi to be able to do that as well.
The wrapper just links Kodi to the high end video/audio right ?

I'm playing the files from a NAS (I have some other related posts).
It feels strange that Kodi/Mediaplayer are not able to play content properly whilst ES explorer can
