Thank you !

Problems with the first installer file followed all instructions screen stuck on green android, after approx 15mins pulled power restarted screen still shows green android, will try a second thumb drive.Hope I can retrieve something that I can use.
-
Also having problems with Android 7 stuck on green android. Read on another thread to reload last firmware 08 but that stuck on green android too.
Tried multiple time but update file not seen.
Have used same drive for all previous updates with no problems.
Anything else I should try?
The box is running 1.0.8 ok but can't do any updates!
Thanks.
-
Got android loading first file (Android 5.1 to 7) then Himedia logo then android and so on repeated till I removed reset pin and it booted back into Himedia 1.0.8.
So havn't got anywhere.
-
It sounds like the Q5 Pro isn't recognising the update file.
The update.zip file needs to be extracted from our download archive. No renaming.
I've just tested the process again on a Q5 Pro and I'm confident it works.
-
Yes I am using a mac so the update.zip file is shown in a folder with a readme.txt. File
I have copied the update.zip to the epmty fat32 formatted drive.
Same as before. Have run diagnostics on drive and it passes.
Hmmm!
-
I can't explain it.
We've flashed several Q5 Pro here and it works.
I think we should wait for more feedback on the forum.
-
There is some talk in the Q10 Pro thread about it not working if you have the CS custom firmware installed.
I can't see why this would be, but if you do have this firmware installed then it would be worth installed official 1.0.8 and then attempting the upgrade to 2.0.0 again.
-
Just succeeded after 4th attempt using original thumb drive, can't explain why it didn't work on previous attempts except possibly corrupt download initially.

The zip inside a zip should make corrupt downloads impossible (zip files have built in CRC).
Glad you got it working.
-
Yes working fine, except for one small problem when using Media Player with a letterbox format film it seems to keep defaulting to full screen making round objects look oval, need to quit full screen each time opening a film, anyone else found this?
-
Not seeing v08 either so will try redownloads and another drive if I can find one.
Thanks.
-
Success - Restarted and redownloaded and reformatted and Android 7 is loading.
Not a good method for pinpointing the issue but its working.
Because someone had raised the same issue I didn't do the basics.
Thanks Futeko!

Firmware installed OK. :)
LAN connection is OK, but WiFi keeps switching on and off. As soon as I open an app I loose connection. :(

It works OK here.
If you have ethernet connected at the same time as enabling wi-fi the box will switch to ethernet. So remove the ethernet cable first.
If that doesn't work try forgetting the wifi network and re-entering password.
Settings - More - Wifi - SSID - Forget.

Thanks for the swift reply. The problem persists. I'll will try with another WiFi network. With WiFi you never know....
Edit: Problem gone when I use another network. Beats me, but I can't blame the HiMedia :-X

It depend what is the root cause. Did a lookup and the number of auto select channels supported is the bare minimum (manual none).
Per region/country/product a preference may exist for certain channels. This may be configurable on some Access Points!

That's the build number for the migration firmware.
They'll run into problems running it as a regular firmware.
They need to install HMD-2.0.0 2016-11-18.175905 on top of it.

Thanks for replay,futeko!

Yes, I can confirm having the same issue.

I have reported this to HiMedia as a bug, but I suspect they've disabled it on purpose for some reason.
There is another bigger Navi bar bug, and that is that there is no hide button, so once you've pulled the navi bar up with mouse it cannot be hidden. This has been reported as a serious bug, so perhaps they'll look at the app button whilst fixing this.

Still stuttering with TS2 files in 1080i50 :-\
More info please. Do you mean .ts files? From what source? DVD?
Sorry for late reply, had a busy week...
The TS2 files are the streams and recordings from my satellite receiver.
The set-up is: I use the VU+ addon in Kodi for watching live streams and recordings from my VU+ satellite receiver in my Home Network. Intermittently the picture stutters. Sometimes when the picture stutters its enough to press the OK button on the remote to display Kodi's OSD. In that case, the stuttering disappears for a while.
In the previous firmware (1.0.8 android 5.1) I tried lots of scenarios: using VU+ own app, apps from Dream Multimedia, connecting an USB stick with a TS2 file and playing back in Kodi... all gave the same result. Because android 7 gives the same problems in Kodi, I didn't try the other apps yet.
Only when you chose 1080P resolutions in the setup of the HiMedia box, it doesn't stutter at al. The problem with the progressive setup are the very unsharp movements.
Before buying the HiMedia, I used a unknow Chinese androidbox. The streams were always sharp and fluently in 1080i50. Also less sharp in 1080P.

In 1.0.7 fw I have solved somehow to get rid of the nav bar, once it sticked on the screen. I had to use my keyboards touchbad and do some mouse movement and clikcking (gesturung I guess), but won't recall from memory what was it exactly... ??? Maybe theres a similar way with airmouse too...

Have you tried the auto-switching addon for Kodi? If you're using Kodi's internal player (and I think you are) this would fix any stutters caused by a mismatch of source fps to output Hz.

The auto-switching addon doesn't work, because he can't get info about framerate in the streams. At least that's what the error message says while I ran android 5.
I haven't tried this in Android 7. I'll do it and report it back here asap.
Thanks

Mr.Futeko,
i want to discuss about video quality for hevc x265 10bits .mkv. (i pick 4nos of movies for the test)
1. i had done stage 1 and 2 = installation fine android 7 fw 2.0. Video playback quality = pixels "breaking up" on and off
2. i did factory reset, then downgraded android 7 fw 2.0 to android 5.1.1 fw 1.0.8 . Video playback quality = stutter instead of pixels breaking at the same video scenes.
3. i repeat step 1 = problems still the same.
However, when i played those video files (x265 10bits) at my laptop with media player classic+K lite codec, everything is Perfect.
My opinion, i think my Q5Pro need a good codec. i just google, there is a k-lite codec apk for android. i plan to try this.
How about the rest of you guys?? any similar problem???

In my experience Q5/Q10 Pro play pretty much anything without a problem. I don't get stutter or pixellation, even at 250+mbps.
Can you point me to samples for download that demonstrate the problem?

Hi,
installed new version Android 7 FW on Q5 PRO (all ok).
Now i get these problems in HimediaVideoPlayer:
- When resume a play on a file, it says "Press Back to restart at the beginning". I press Back, but it doesn't restart from beginning
- When a play stops (by pressing "0" on remote (remapped), or at the end of files-movies, it hilight a different title (not that just played)
- Sometimes (i don't know when and why), when a 24fps (or 23.976 fps) movies ends, himedia remains on 24P. I have to go to settings and reset to 1080p 50Hz
thanks

After installing the patch to make it work with Android 7 (the RUN_ME batch file) you then need to install the Kodi add-on.
Follow the installation instructions in the opening post: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1015.0
The add-on has configuration options where you can control how switching works.

But you will... Known problem for -not just, but also- by Q10/Q5 Pro users on other Forums. The problem -appears- to be with the 10 bit colour depth. Himedias hw or sw just doesn't support it correctly. Here are some widely used samples for testing: https://www.koi-sama.net/files/hi10/ (https://www.koi-sama.net/files/hi10/) I obviously notice the heavy artifacting and the jumping/jamming int the continuity of the playback. Simply unenjoyable and unwatchable. Hope is not the limitation of the SOC and can be corrected with a firmware update. So would be good (after your confidence), to inform Himedia according the trouble.
Thanks!

Hi
When I upgraded my Q5 pro to N7 firmware , I noticed that Netflix App stream in 720p quality.
Everyone else have noticed this ?

Follow the installation instructions in the opening post: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1015.0

I did this, but I now remember the problem with the frame-rate switch addon. It only works with 1080P. When I play back my TS2 files in 1080P instead of 1080i, I never have the stutters, but with moving pictures, I have a very blurred picture.
I discovered another temporarily solution: for the best picture I have to watch to a 1080i50 picture, but this mode stutters. When I select QuickClean in the main menu of the HiMedia, and after this process I immediately select Kodi and watch my stream, I have a smooth and very sharp picture for +/- 5 minutes. After this time, the stuttering recommences. Maybe that's a clue for the solution...
-
It really seems to be a very unknow problem. I've posted this problem many times and neither a solution exists or there is an update coming up for the TS2 stuttering issues.
Do I really am the one and only person who plays back TS2 files in 1080i50 resolution?
If not, I hope to find someone else who does this and who can explain his workaround :-\
It is a pity that those files don't work well because I've bought that HiMedia box especially for watching the streams of my satellite receiver ::)

Ok last weekend i did my own experiments, i found that my Q5pro problems actually started when i upgraded my Firmware to 1.0.8
after i done few RESET as below cases:
Case 1 : Upgraded from android 5.1.1 fw1.0.8 to Nougat 7 fw2.0.0 = results video Pixelation problem, grey screen (random scenes) with video HEVC X265 10bits. For AVC X264 is OK, no issue. AAC 7.1 is working!
Case 2 : Downgraded from Nougat 7 2.0.0 back to 5.1.1 fw1.0.8 = results video stutter problem causes video and audio out of sync(random scenes) with video HEVC X265 10bits. For AVC X264 is OK, no issue. But ACC 7.1 is NOT working.
Case 3: At Android 5.1.1, downgraded FW1.0.8 to FW1.0,5. And then from 1.0.5 upgraded to 1.0.7 = Issues Resolved! No more stutter, pixelation,or grey screen. But cannot play/ get AAC 7.1 sound anymore.
Case 4: At Android 5.1.1, downgraded FW1.0.8 to FW1.0,5. And then from 1.0.5 upgraded to 1.0.7 then upgrade back to 1.0.8= results video stutter problem causes video and audio out of sync(random scenes) with video HEVC X265 10bits. For AVC X264 is OK, no issue. AAC 7.1 not working.
So now, my setup of my Himedia Q5Pro as per Case 3 which i have no more issues on the video quality. Except i cannot get AAC7.1 sound. It will be great if you (Himedia team) can work on this matter and solve the issue in next Firmware update.
And what is your opinion, whether i can skip 1.0.8 in the next FW update? Meaning from fw1.0.7, upgrade to latest version (when its available) by skip 1.0.8??

That is a lot of firmware installing. To update from any 1.0.X firmware to any 2.X firmware you first need to install the Android 7 migration firmware and the the final firmware you want to install.
I'd still like a sample file so I can verify the problems you report. They aren't typical. The widely available HEVC samples all play fine.

Hi everyone, i've upgraded my Q5 Pro to 7.0 Nougat today without a glimp but i have some minor issues i like to discuss.
1. The mayor issue i noticed is that i 'lossed' 4gig of flash memory, no matter what memory check i use, it says 4Gb memory. Anyone else experienced this problem?
2. In ES File explorer my Micro SDHC card is no longer shown on te main page. I have to make a shortcut within the app to external card to reach the files on it. A USB stick is shown after i mount it.
3. Some app's keep crashing especially my Apex Launcher, but that's probably a comp-ability problem with Nougat i guess.
For the rest it seem to work fine, all video files play smoothly. From H264, H265, MKV, 8 bits and 10bits, they all run perfect. I mostly use Kodi or MX player to play video files.
I hope someone can help me out with especially the 1st issue.

Hi, Mr. Ed,
I have exactly the same you describe for first 2 points. 4GB taken by Android etc.. and MicroSD card not shown in ES File explorer. You mentioned something bout creating a shortcut within the app. What do you mean exactly? How one can do that?
thx in advance, Stan

Hi Stan,
I found the location of the external SDcard via ES File Explorer (it was one of the folders in the MNT folder) and made a favorite shortcut in ES File explorer to my external SD card. So now i can reach it easily from the favorite section.

Hi, I would like to know will the Q5 Pro get the Android 7 OTA update eventually (not using the manual update method)?

Hey guys, i upgraded a few weeks ago and everything seems to work smoothly, however. It looks like the SPDIF port is not working because i get no audio from it to met receiver. I see the glass cable light up so the port is working but i get no sound from it. Normally i use the HDMI for video and audio but after the Kodi update to V17 i and with lot's of users have problems with the passthrough option in Kodi. I read that this possible has something to do with the audio via HDMI and that you may wanna try the SPDIF signal. But no matter what i play, audio or video i get no sound from this port and i tried all the possible options. Last thing is to check if the cable is broken but i think i can exclude that cause it has worked before the upgrade from 5.1 to 7.

Kodi 17 has a problem at the moment on Q5/Q10 Pro where there is no passthrough for multi-channel audio using native player.
The solution is to use Kodi 16.1 or Kodi 17 + HiMedia wrapper.
Do you get sound from SPDIF with HiMedia wrapper (or Media Center app on home screen)?

I know the problem with the passthrough in Kodi 17 but i tried playing a music file with the Himedia player through the SPDIF port and i get no sound on my receiver. I will do some tests with Media Center tonight.

Hi Fuketo, the SPDIF works fine. There was a well hidden option on my receiver were i had to re-route the audio from HDMI to SPDIF and that worked. So no problem with that anymore. The only thing is the passthrough in Kodi 17 but that's not of your concern. With Wrapper it works ok but i don't like the Wrapper i rather have the internal Kodi player, so for now i'll stay witk Kodi Jarvis.

I would recommend not.
First install an Android 7 firmware, then the Android 5.1 downgrade firmware, then Android 5.1 1.1.0.
Long-winded but guaranteed to work. I don't honestly know what would happen if you install Android 5.1 1.1.0 when halfway through Android 7 update (only migration firmware installed).
