Title: Playing movies over user/pass protected SAMBA
Post by: airsoft on May 07, 2015, 11:34:16 AM
Hi,

why the internal player does not support usage of user/pass protected shares?
I don't think it is difficult at all. Some hidden performance problem?
KODI support it, but has the restrictions of Blu-ray 3D playing and HD audio (DTS-HD/Dolby TrueHD) bitstream.
Can you ask HiMedia why not make it as an option in their player?
One of my storages is windows 7 64 - and I can create additional sharing w/o authentication,
but the other is embedded NAS Netgear MS2000 - it doesn't support mixed sharing and I don't want to expose my storage
to other computers in the network :)

Regards,
Hristo

I got round this on the q10 which worked ittermittantly using samba by installing a free NFS server on the windows box, you can do the same with FTP servers in kodi this work around should make most NAS or windows boxes accessible

Sure, but if you wish BD3D/HD audio you should use himedia's player and the most important: it has the problem, not the KODI.
So thanks for the offer, but it is not my solution :)

Samba and the himediawrapper is being looked at by himedia with reference to the bug playing ISOs in Kodi.

I agree Samba as a whole could do with an overhaul and will push HiMedia to put resources more generally into improving himediawrapper Samba.

I agree, but installing a working NFS server on Windows isn't quite simple for anyone comparing with Windows 7 sharing, right?

Hi again,

I've tested even this:
mounted one of my password protected WINDOWS shared folder to KODI and I've tried to play the movie
with HiMediaWrapper (default) player hoping to avoid SAMBA client of HiMedia's internal player :)
but success -> result is message from Android .... KODI has stopped working.
So will wait some solution from HiMedia
