i think the development of the H8 is over. its one of the chinese crap machines. HiMedia is a dead cow for me..

I have the same feeling. There are still big annoying bugs (AV-asynch, 3D-ISO problems, youtube stutter, etc.) in the firmware which make it impossible to use the H8 octa as Media Player. I don't use the H8 anymore, I bought two RaspberryPi's and use LibreELEC.

HiMedia are still selling new RK3368 products and are releasing new firmware for H8, H8 Lite, H8 Plus.

So it's not end of life.

The problems with H8 stem from the chipset manufacturer (Rockchip) not releasing SDK (core firmware) updates. Unlike HiMedia HiSilicon (Q5/Q10) where chipset manufacturer and box manufacturer have a close relationship. It's stopped some fixed being possible to implement.

I found this in a German media-player forum:

Code: [Select]
    Nicole HiMedia has written:
    Hello, Timo,

The H8 is now majorly replaced by H8 Plus, H8 Lite. I think it probably might not have update too frequently. I am sorry. But i will let you know if there is update. :)

Remark: Timo is one of the two the Administrators from that forum who is in contact with Himedia.

H8 Plus and Lite have the same chipset and run an almost identical firmware.

H8 updates will happen at the same time as H8 Plus/Lite.

I don't know Nicole from HiMedia, but she's wrong.
