Downloaded the new firmware extracted it to a usb stick (fat formatted), attempted to install the new firmware twice using the reboot method and pin and twice had an error at around 30% install, any idea why and possible measures to overcome this problem. Thanks

Try a different USB stick.

The update definitely works. We've done it several times today.

As I see they only fixed(?) the HDR issue from the major complains we had. Which is good and I hope they fix the 3D MVC compatibility and the 3D ISO microshutter next time. Those really should be the next fixes because this way this is not a full 3D compatible player as stated in the ads.

"Have to agree w/you on the 3D microstutters issue. Definitely an annoyance to those who notice. My family, guests rarely do, but it's one of those things, once you start noticing, you can't un-notice. The audio issue, I'm not as bothered as I don't think I'd honestly be able to tell the difference between 96KHz or 192KHz rendered at full 24-bit vs. 16-bit as Q5/Q10 Pro really do. But, for audio purists, I can understand it being a bigger issue.

Overall grade lowered to B+ as 3D at least is one of HiMedia's key selling points w/both these boxes. Microstutters shouldn't be there for an A/V-phile box. And, re: audio, HiMedia and Futeko shouldn't advertise 24bit if boxes only do 16-bit. Did want to caution this is based solely on @looun's tests here, but I trust he knows his stuff. "

Used a different usb stick firmware installed correctly.
However, still a problem with selecting 4:2:0 8bit or 10bit with 1080p resolution, message reads unavailable use 2160p

Basic expectation...  Huge dissapointment... I also had really anticipated that fix at least, especialy cause this fw was a really long time comming... :-\
Reading this and the previous comments I really doubt that theres any good mayor reason for me to install it over the latest fw.

But maybe they solved the SMB share (network discovery) issue in some ways I have since a couple of days. That would be the only reason...

I do need subs, but only for non-English movies. We have a closed beta-testers issue tracking spreadsheet, but decision was made by group to keep it closed. Otherwise, you could've added the sub issue to it. And, to be honest, not sure HiMedia pays much attention to it.

Edit: I added your sub issue from info in your post.

I now watched 3 movies in a road(my head is like baloon ;D)...big screen,65...
and i cant see stutters...Am i blind?
Maybe you want to keep it that way ;), as once you start noticing microstutters, you don't stop. Watch closely the end credits of any 3D ISO. You'll see at least a couple of frame skips or jumps.

+1 big disappointment !!!! Almost 2 months and a half and they came with this unfinished firmware.
Anyway a few things should be mentioned as an addition to what colleagues have said above:
3D subtittle adjust disapeared in this firm. It will be good to be back.
The message of confirmattion when exiting the movie was resolved(by pressing 2 times the back button)  but the message from Kodi "press ok when playback ended" is still there. I mention again that this problem was fixed on Q5 quad....I beg for this 2 modiffications from 1.0.6 ....

This is a Kodi message and is always there when using an external player from Kodi. It wasn't any different on Q5 4K3D.

We have requested that HiMedia find a way to suppress it, but since it's being generated by Kodi it might not be possible. You'd be better directing the request for it's removal at Kodi devs.

Overall, the Kodi+wrapper solution is better than customising Kodi (all chipset features, ability to use latest Kodi) so we're stuck with the message unless Kodi choose to remove it.

I can confirm that the message is not present on Q5 quad. I have this player in another room. The firmware is from 30 dec 2015 and kodi is 16.1. That's why I can't understand why the message is present on the same Kodi version on Q5 pro. They have fixed in the past but can't fix it on the new device?

There will be a new firmware with entirely new SDK / Android 7 released in a few weeks time.

The original plan was for the firmware after 1.0.7 to be Android 7. The only reason we are seeing this 1.0.8 / Android 5.1.1 firmware is the delay to the new SDK / Android 7 firmware.

Expect more fixes when we jump to Android 7.

I would have expected FW 1.08 at least to fix everything which was broken by FW 1.07 and consolidate all the fixes from FW 1.05, FW 1.06 and FW 1.07 as some are not-consistent.

This looks just to bolt on FW 1.07 with marginal new fixes (and maybe new broken items?).  Not happy, waiting once more for the next move!

FW 1.0.8 have new Launcher 3D version with force /etc/launcher/bg.png.
Use normal launcher, wait for cosmetic firmware 2-3 days, or edit via adb shell.

Live Backrounds are not working anymore in  1.08

Can somebody confirm this?

I think there's problem using wrapper in Kodi. Please switch back to using kodi default player instead of wrapper in Himedia App folder. The message will disappear for this moment.

I quickly tested the new firmware 1.08 but can not find anything positive.
He was quick to crash in the search for kodi library films.
also the big problem of reading DVDs has not been resolved. indeed worsened, not only it kodi not read them yet but also the internal reader does not read them more '.
I then tried to change wrappler primary reader in kodi and the DVD starts, but you do not hear the audio.
for now the new firmware is just a failure. I return to the old 1.07

Me too.

If the DVD issue is not solved soon, i'll be looking into buying a different product.

Owning a media player that has problems playing my media is kind of pointless.

Judder is still present also with latest fw in himedia app....I have to use kodi everytime.

Anyway I have a question that I don't still understand well. My TV is HD Ready that support resolution up to 1080p 60HZ. For best result is better set to 720p (standard output of tv), 1080p or choose "HDMI auto adaptation"? With last one always recognize 1080p 60HZ.

1080p is Full HD, simple "HD ready" means -normally in the previous TV manufacturers dictionary-  720p max display resolution (supported by the display electronics/panel itself).  So I couldn't catch your point here.

Maybe you mean that your TV can dispay (downscale) 1080p source material to 720p, wich is normal. But I gues there will be more briefed member here to inform you precisely... (I just answered in the case when no concerned ones would...) But if your TV supports res up to 1080p, than its a FHD.

However, (to get a bit over what I couldn't  decode properly ;D) don't bother with "Auto Adaptation", it just would casue troubles. Choose eighter 720p or 1080p, and see and test which produces the better PQ compared to your eyes expctations with real video playback....

(And yes, I know that HD Ready TV's can diplay 1080p material as well, which I guess would be in your case, futher testing to choose between the two "setup" is up to you , I guess... Till someone prooves the sureness to bail out my suggestions..)

Thanks for the answer Mount!  :) Yes, tv is HD Ready 720p. This is the information in the technical specifications of TV:

Video signals supported by the HDMI: 480p, 567p, 720p, 1080i/p @ 24 / 30 / 50 / 60 Hz

So I have to choose between 720p 60Hz or 1080p 60Hz. In theory I think that standard 720p would be better to rendering and refresh the image. And about HDMI deep color what would be the best option? Default is YCbCr422 10bit. Or it's better to set on 8bit?

I also gues that the best resolution would be the native 720p.  So I would set the custom resolution to 720p, however HDMI auto adaptation should work, but in many cases it obviously fails in it's task (in overall, not just on these players). The  YCbCr would be best at 4:2:0 and 8bit, cause the video sources these days are mainly in this format, but sadly the player only supports it in 4K 50/60Hz. So the closer you can set to this the colour space, the better result you would get.  Also I guess that you TV neighter supports 10bit Deep Colour (even most of the FHD TV don't), so  YCbCr422 8 bit would be fine for your TV.
(Till Himedia would be so nice to finally solve and bring YCbCr 4:2:0 with 8bit to 1080p/720p res with any refresh rate as well.)

Thanks again for the answer.  ;) Ok, so I'll test 720p 60HZ and YCbCr422 8 bit color to see if there are differences.

For Himedia Player theres no option for this (which I highly propose and expect to be implemented in it anyway), you can only "trick" with it when you playing your videos with KODI (instead of the native HM Player): for this you must enable the setting within KODI->System->Audio settings->Normalize levels on downmix (ON). But as far as the normally usage of these media players goes, that's basically not what you (and others having sometimes the same issue, with bearly hearable dialogs in movies) would want.

A patch/fw implementation of this kind or similar (selectable) feature in the core Himedia Player would be appreciated and highly anticipated futhermore... (But seriously doubting the possibility of this kind of particular enhacemant, while we're still on the edge of waiting (for a long time) for the resolve of some basic and mayor fetures, like 3D cadence correction, and correct DVD fps switching...) It would be expeted thet we would complain these days (plenty months and fw updates away from these devices first release)  futher from this kind of issues, but obviously seams that we must park our othervise improver suggestons and needs bellow, to wait if even the main -and advertised- features will be fixed and work correctly sometimes...

Could you improve the English in the Changelog? I don't understand what several of the points are trying to say.

Next firmware we will improve the changelog before HiMedia publish it.

Newer for any niggling, just for the sake of any users concerned (including me), but it somehow looks to a very unprofessional approach on both Himedia's and on Futeko's side, to leave out it like this. I guess it's a copy&paste google translation from chinese, but I agree that some points aren't even aunravelable after the 5th reading, and not even after... It would be understandable due the period of hurry of the fresh release, but not to leave it out like this for longer.

(And just for to catch the funny side of it: ->Blue-ray?  Really?! ;D )

I believe it's a type of fish.

Next firmware will have English translation of changelog edited by us first before release.

Really... just tried it and came here to see when futeko posted the new firmware.
Wtf?!  It has been 14 days since the posting and still no ota.
That is like not existing.  For once I'm waiting for ota and Himedia does not disappoint me when it comes to my expectations  😕

Well if they intend to release another (major) firmware update soon,  what's the point of releasing another OTA?

IMO it doesn't even address those major problems that others cited on this thread.

Of course the idea of updating to something newer.

Honestly I don't see any good benefits on this update. So I stayed with mine on 1.07.

Your needs of course is different from mine. For this your frustration.

Just expressing my thoughts.
