It searches for subtitles using Android system language as well as English.
Just install the apk as normal and it will replace existing himediaplayer:
Version number: HiMediaVideoPlayer 1.0.6_HMD_0823_Release
http://www.mediafire.com/download/asd57b8r78mobon/HimediaVideoPlayer-multilanguagesubs.apk
First impressions are that it works but the language selection would be better controlled from himediaplayer menu than Android system language.
All feedback welcomed. It's just a beta so there's plenty of time to improve before final release.

Won't work for me really as I run Android in English despite living in The Netherlands (OS translations are often misleading and make searching for help inefficient). Many do the same here. Many household are multi-lingual exclusive English too. Mine is Dutch and Spanish.
Will give it a go anyway and switch Android to either one for a trial. Better than no local language download for sure.

I agree totally. There needs to be a menu option in himediaplayer for subtitle download language.

+1
HiMedia can check how is implemented on MX Player/Pro for inspiration.

Or on VLC player (use the PC version where it Is to be found under views (strange place).

I'd like some testing of how the search performs for different languages and content.

Installed this yesterday and changed the OS language to Spanish. A decent number of (old) DVD sources found Spanish subtitles for them.
The previous mentioning of English not found anymore proved to be incorrect.

Today changed to Dutch and that was very disappointing. Did not find any subtitle yet trying some 10 movies. All found some English subs so the search worked for all. For sure some working srt Dutch subs can be found for these.
If useful can provide some good public Dutch subtitle sources.

Thanks for the testing. HiMedia say the sub search uses Opensubtitles so it should find a good number of Dutch subs. I will report back to HiMedia that it did not.

Opensubtitles is not very good for old(er) movies looking for Dutch. Use it myself as one of 4 main resources.

I installed this version but found no subtitles in Romanian though I set the android Romanian. Mention that are subtitled in Romanian opensubtitles.org on popular movies.

Also running into the reverse problem. There is a max search list. It may find a maximum for the local language already and no give English results anymore.
A quick selection of language is really what is needed. Also the original name of the (long) filename found should be displayed. This helps judging which one may suit one's needs or others which probably won't.

After downloading the subtitle go Menu - Subtitle Settings - Sub Encode. I'm not sure of the correct settings for Polish, but maybe try Central Europe.
