Title: Unable to change "PQ Settings" under Setup>Advanced Options
Post by: akurej on August 22, 2016, 02:45:16 PM
I am still unable to make any changes under the "PQ settings".

If I try to change any setting it says "Is not operational, because current HDR mode is not SDR"

I tried playing Blu-ray and MKVs files under 720p, 1080p and 2160p resolutions. But nothing seems to make it work!
Tried FW 1.0.6 and 1.0.7.

I wonder if anyone else is facing this issue?

I am using "Other" for the HDR option. It was recommended by some of the PQ gurus on this forum.  Got good PQ results with it using a 1080P60 TV and is also enabling the Imprex 2.0 engine. I believe current support in combination with 2160P/HDR is not included yet?

No idea what "Other" exactly does except enforcing YCbCr 4:4:4 output but the same goes for "Auto" in combination with the various color space options.
This part would need good documentation making it understandable for a wide public. A volunteer?

What I learned from a tutorial of a professional working in the movie world:
- RGB and above all RGB+/RGBfull  are to be avoided unless this is the only format being supported. Problems with amongst others (ultra) black levels are to be expected as RGB implementations require professional calibration.
- YCbCr 4:2:0 is the format found on BD's always and the TV/Projector use YCbCr 4:4:4 internally for display. Upscaling needs to be done somewhere implicitly.
- In general it is NOT recommended to upscale the color space multiple times.
This is at least inline with the "Other setting for HDR" working well.

So there are the settings... I changed to "other" and still could not change PQ settings.
But when I changed to "SDR" I could change the PQ settings! :-)

I think I will keep in auto and YCbCr420 10Bit. (default was RGB444 8bit)
Will check the difference.
