If you find out rooting is good for you then -> http://himedia.ca/forum/index.php?topic=137.0 (http://himedia.ca/forum/index.php?topic=137.0)
Worked for me so far. But it's only been few days since I did it.

So I need root for my automation in tasker (primarily keyboard simulation).
Will the link above work? Just a little worried as there is minimal information and don't want to brick my q10 pro.
The box will arrive soon so wanted to get straight into rooting it.
I have ordered it from an Australian distributor on ebay, but assume all the q10 pro are the same firmware aren't they? So same root method/file?

That is not the method I would use for root. It would probably work with Android 5.1.1 firmware but not with Android 7.
A better method (Android 5.1.1 and 7) is here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1616.msg13230#msg13230
But.. If you are unsure you probably shouldn't do it. It's only useful for a few specific purposes and can brick the Q5/Q10 Pro and will invalidate warranty.

Thanks a lot. Very helpful. I noticed the backup thread but hadn't realised it had the root description in there.

If you asked that question definitely no. Why do you need it?

Agreed. I've added a warning to my post pointing to the method.
