Title: HELP PLEASE - can't play videos via Kodi
Post by: Xar18 on August 10, 2016, 12:20:25 PM
Hi all. I have a Q5 pro attached to a QNAP 251+ NAS. I have all my content in a folder called 'multimedia' and I can see this via NFS or SMB connection.

I am using SMB to connect, and can 'see' all of my folders and content, all has been scanned with artwork etc, and I can see everything in the movies menu on the main KODI bar.

I have also upgraded to the latest software.

The issue is that when I select any movie, I get a brief flash of the 'movie reel' logo as if the Q5 is attempting to play the movie, but nothing happens. i.e. mo files will actually play.

To add to this, when I updated to latest software Kodi wouldn't open (neither would youtube, skype etc), so I had to reinstall from the Play Store. I alos can;t see the 'wrapper' app in My Apps any more (I put this down to it being integrated with kodi on the latest software though).

Questions:

- Am I doing something silly in kodi itself to not have the movies playing back?
- Has reinstalling kodi from the play store possibly caused this issue (i.e. I am using the standard version of kodi rather than the HiMedia version?)?
- Should I still have a 'wrapper' app in the latest version of the firmware?
- Am I on the latest version of the software? see screen below - I did install but it seems to read as 1.05 not 1.06

please note if you use KODI/SPMC to play files from SMB network, the SMB network should have NO User ID and Password.

you must share folder with anonymous or guest user.

or use this tool.

It sounds like a problem with how the wrapper is installed. You could try reinstalling the wrapper. Instructions here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=710.0

But.. because something unusual went wrong with the upgrade to 1.0.5 causing you to reinstall apps from Play Store, I would recommend a clean firmware install.

Install firmware 1.0.6 using the UPGRADE button on the back of the box. Instructions and download here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1046.0

After the firmware install you'll have Kodi with wrapper pre-installed. Everything should just work from then on.

If you want to back up your Kodi setup see here: http://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:Backup

So I have tried the new firmware a PhD same result as before;

kodi, YouTube, Skype, Facebook, chrome apps all unresponsive on the home screen I.e. I can't open them

Play store, my apps, settings, media centre, and task management work fine

My apps does not show a 'wrapper' app

Firmware applied via sub with single file called 'update.zip',  held in restart button, turned on Q5 and held restart until android icon appeared, released restart button while update occurred.

Any thoughts?

It sounds like the box hasn't recognised the update.zip file.

If you push upgrade button on back without the update.zip being recognised then the box will do a factory reset and you would lose some apps (these apps are installed on first boot after successful firmware install). I think the apps that are not responsive are in fact not installed as would be the case with a factory reset.

The USB stick should be formatted as FAT32 format and the 'update.zip' file is found inside our firmware download archive. There is no need to rename anything (I say this because a common mistake is to rename the download archive to 'update.zip').

Finally, where did you get the box from? Was it us? There's a small chance you have the Chinese hardware version, which requires a different firmware upgrade file. What text do you have on the top of the Q5 Pro casing?

I got the box from yourselves. My drive is Exfat rather than fat32 though. I can 'see' it and the update file via the media centre so assumed it would work. Will try again.

Thanks

Tried again with no luck. I have an iMac and fat32 isn't an explicit option fir fomatting. Do you have a OSX recommended option?

I have a macbook pro. Open Disk Utility, select the pendrive, and choose MS-DOS Fat to format. Copy the update.zip on the pendrive and download and install CleanMedia app that remove hidden files created on the drive by OSX. After installed CleanMedia, open it and drag the icon of pendrive in the app and eject it.

Tried the ms dos plus clean media app and still no luck. Very odd.  I can definitely see the USB drive and the '.zip' file from media centre, so it can read it.

To be clear I do the following:

Turn off Q5
Add USB drive (tried all 3 ports)
Press restart button on back
Turn on player with restart held down until android logo appears
Release restart button and let it do its thing

Definitely performs a factory reset instead of an upgrade as showing 1.05 version number and kodi etc doesn't work.

Can I use a full size USB hard drive instead of the pen drive?

I am able to play all files/ Blu-ray Folder/ ISO using Kodi through local USB HDD.
But I am unable to play them through NFS!

Kodi is able to connect to my PC having hosting hanewin NFS server.
It shows all content, and even updated the movies database.
But when I try to play the movie it simply doesn't work.

Whereas I am able play them using Media Centre, through this same NFS setup.

Any idea what maybe the issue?

Updating to the latest firmware worked for me.
