Thanks.
Please, everybody, acknowledge whether or not the SUBTITLE BUG is still present.
That is, if subtitles lines are skipping if pause is too small or zero...
This is the only reason why I am still using 2.0.6.
Cheers, MIhai.
PS - LATER EDIT - I read in the other forum that subtitle bug STILL EXIST. TOO BAD, Himedia.

Hi, The older versions did not allow to get full UHD/4k Resolution when displaying JPG images (only HD). Is this now fixed?
Thanks

Hi Futeko.
It is possible to write to HiMedia the list of unresolved bugs, which we have been dragging on for a long time, such as the problem of the 720x576 aspect ratio.

I regularly forward a list of bugs to himedia. e.g., after 2.0.8:
* Directories/Filenames with special characters will not play himediaplayer / kodi+wrapper. e.g. # [] ().
* Some subtitle lines not shown when pause between subtitles is <1ms. srt. Was OK in 2.0.6, broken in 2.0.7 and 2.0.8.
Samples:
http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=3043.msg23402#msg23402 http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=3043.0;attach=583

* 720x576 video (e.g. PAL DVD) aspect ratio incorrect. Squashed horizontally. OK in 2.0.4 and earlier, broken in all subsequent firmware.
e.g., after 2.0.7:
** Squashed image when playing 720x576 files (i.e. all PAL format DVD). REGRESSION 2.0.5/2.0.6/2.0.7 (OK IN 2.0.4). Himediaplayer. Samples and explanation: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2576.0
** SPACES IN TOP FOLDER OF MOVIE DIRECTORY STOPS SHARE BEING VISIBLE IN MEDIA CENTER. http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=812.msg21659#msg21659
** Himediaplayer cannot find any non-Chinese subtitles.
** Audio delay when playing anything through RCA outputs.
** Kodi wrapper crashes when video filename contains special characters (e.g. # or &). These are very common in titles so this is a big problem.
** Subtitle time adjust delay function is too short, only allows "+/-" 10 seconds
** Some AVI files don't play in Himediaplayer Regression from 2.0.6. http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=711.msg22068#msg22068
** Possible framerate slowdown with 2.0.7. Not earlier firmwares. http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2834.0
** Subtitle lines not displayed 2.0.7 only. http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=812.msg22293#msg22293
** Deleting files using Samba does not free up space on HDD in Q10 Pro. http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2646.msg22292#msg22292
So HiMedia are aware of the key bugs.
I will contact them in a few days with whatever new 2.0.9 throws up plus what has not been fixed.

Futeko ,
the himedia's file manager is not exist at 2.0.9.
How can we install it.
Thanks a lot
I can not download the software
-
I don't understand why the changelog does not show that the FileManager has been taken out in 2.0.9.
Also, the proposed FileExplorer in my opinion is not a substitute. You can't really navigate with the HiMedia remote
-
There's a problem with aspect ratio
Edited:
Ah..now it's solved. I didn't check the settings

Thanks.Have a nice weekend

Subtile line skip issue not resolved. ->Which is just enough to completely ignore this update.
Any news on the audio slip issue on the analogue output, have you tested it Futeko? (Or anyone else who would be that kind...)
Well IMO HiMedia with this kind off costumer care and support just will loose lot's of potential current costumers, when the release of they new devices came actual. Guess they think they would have just right enough newbie, uninformed verdants to sell as many as it's still worth them (as I may guess it's still happening now with the current products). (DGMW, the Pro models wouldn't be and maybe even aren't that bad, but you have to make some unexpected and uncomfortable compromises, as some of their basic bugs are very irritating and it makes it even more ridiculous when they still fail to fix them, or juts -inexplicably- fall back to previously fixed bugs, after more than 2 years of "development").
One thing to take note as a plus (or rather minus): till OFW 1.0.9 I had no problem with the 24Hz 3D MVC output, as it was seamless on my Samsung Active 3D TV (that was know that if you're lucky , than you'r TV might compensate it), but after 2.0.6 the 41 sec period microstutter just came as visible for me as for any of the other complaining users. So there is definitely some difference now how even that 24Hz is made output in the case of 3D MVC. ->So suggest as an also worthily notable technical detail to be reported to Futeko.

It seems the subtitle issue is perhaps the key concern for international users ( not to say there are many other bugs, specially around 3D).
-
A question that I often ask myself is why HiMedia does not want to solve these bugs introduced with recent firmware and what interests they have not to do?
-
I am forced to use 2.0.6 because of this stupid bug...."sub line skipping" :(.
Amazing!!!
-
Full of bug-
1- Missing front usb port
2- file manager missing
3- open bluray manu still need to install
4- clock take up to 2 min to sync with internat
not recommended to update please skip this one
-
Apparently Himedia has hired a band of chimpanzees to develop there firmware, Definitely the last unit I will ever own from them, They have had what 2 years to develop the firmware, I think we can safely say it's a failure.....

Installed "HMD-2.0.9 2018-07-10" but "youtube for android tv (2.03.04)" is now crashing when I attempt to play a 4k video.
SD videos played OK but once I try to play a 4k video I get the" Youtube keeps stopping" and after that even SD videos all fail.
I uninstalled and re-installed "youtube for android tv (2.02.14)" but this also does the same when a 4k video is accessed.
Can anyone else confirm this?

I have the same problem in SD and HD.
Youtube keeps stopping error .
Tks

Same here (stuck with 2.0.6), I think they should bump up this subtitle issue to #1 as it is bothering a lot of users (specially international ones). I cannot take advantage of newer firmware releases due to this issue...

That also happens to me with version 2+ but only with 4K videos (my TV is full HD 1080p only), with the "factory" version works fine.

Well I tried to submit 3 bugs to Himedia, I considered to be important (I know there are others), but I needed to concentrate on a few relevant issues without complicating the correspondence.
The bugs I reported were related to:- missing Subtitle lines, 720x576 16:9 video files displaying wrong aspect ratio and deleting files from Windows - Samba access does not free up local hard drive space.
I did receive a response from Himedia and I have now come to the conclusion that these may never be resolved due to the language barrier. We could correspond back and forth for months without getting anywhere.
This company is simply not setup to handle international enquiries. While it is possible to have a conversation in a limited English dialog. It is not possible to do this in technical terms as they need to fully understand the problems that exist and they simply are not capable of this level of understanding (unless you speak Chinese).
The company has been trying to improve the product by realising new firmware updates, but they are unable to grasp the ongoing bugs that have been reported from international users.
While I still believe the product is good, they will never achieve a higher level until they are able to support International customers, unfortunate, but I believe this is the reality of the situation.
-
I have created a test file that helps to show the subtitle issue (enclosed). I have provided it to Himedia before without a satisfactory reply.
Maybe Futeko has more leverage to send this to them as an example.

@afss
Subtitles overlay is not a must to be supported by any player, of course is nice to get supported.
Subtitles maker need to respect rules of doing they job before to share on public subtitles sites.
As I know only on FW v2.0.6 subtitles overlay is supported.

HI Pcristi, It seems those subtitle overlaps are quite common on most files out there, even though I agree they are not respecting the rules. All my other medial playes deal just fine with it (MINIX, Meder, Zidoo, OPPO, etc).
It was working fine on Himedia up to 2.0.6, so all we are asking is for them to go back to the original logic.

Dear Futeko,
I am not able to upgrade from OFW 2.0.8 to OFW 2.0.9. I am following the procedure as mentioned in the thread. Everytime it rolls back to OFW 2.0.7. Colored logo appears but soon after within 10 seconds the Himedia logo appears and the installed FW is 2.0.7 only. Please help.
Thanks in advance.
-
As I know only on FW v2.0.6 subtitles overlay is supported.
Not so, it was working on many previous firmwares as well.
It's a basic feature. No, not even a feature, it should be considered as a natural inherent and evidently integrated and working part in any -serious- video playback software.

Somehow got the FW 2.0.9 installed. Actually changed the USB Stick and the install was successful.
Biggest setback is Amazon Prime Video even after applying patch which was generously developed by @pchristi is NOT working with 2.0.9. Besides, there are occasional stuck up of Google Play Store.
So far happy with Youtube & Himedia Player.
-
For Amazon Prime Video try original patch of @tomeeli for FW v2.0.8 witch need to be OK for original HiMedia FW v.2.0.9 too.

Thanks to pempek40, Joker and stl for your 'Youtube for Android TV' feedback.
I've spent all afternoon on this. I went down to version 2.00.17, which worked and then up to version 2.02.14 again, which now works (SD/HD/4K). But re-installing version 2.03.04 was a step too far and crashed on most videos >:(.
I've settled on version 2.02.14 until someone sorts the bugs out ???.

Not Android 7 version, but 1.0.9 surely did support it. Does it have any necessity? 2.0.6 is an Android 7 version too and they could make it work, so...?

Ok, so not even YT ATV works with this NEW FW... Improvements, bug fixes, advancing the user experience, expanding compatibility, adding new features, refining exiting ones, based on "REAL" user (!CUSTOMER!) experiences, reports, complains, and expectations etc... -> That's what HiMedia's support and firmware development is about? - Guess what....? (Just read back)-> Make you'r own conclusion...
-
@Mount81
HiMedia can't solve Google buggy YT ATV 2.03.04, I will check later report of @haovh_85 as not working YT ATV 2.03.06 of CFW 2.0.8 him show differnt crash screen then I know as Google bug of YT ATV 2.03.04 on HiSilicon SDK.
HiMedia can get fixed HiSilicon SDK for YT ATV 2.03.04, but will see if rely need to avoid Google bug.
Google YT ATV 2.03.04 bug is present for all device base on HiSilicon SDK Android 5.1.1/7.0 except last Android 7.0 FW(20180703) for U5mini/U5PVR where bug is avoided.

There was no software that would make this equipment stable,I test all from the very beginning. In 2.08, this problem was not there, but they were different.

Look like reading Dolby Vision information inside of HDR form unsupported HDR(track1)&DV(track2) UHD remux to mkv, you get same problem with ISO/BDMV disk?

Unfortunately FW 2.0.9 does still not support 4K display format for picture viewing: same bug as in older versions, only HD available. I have tested output over the internal picture player (Mediacenter) and Kodi.
It's a shame for Himedia. When will they fix this bug?
-
As reported before, FileManager is gone from FW 2.09. I just found out that it is now built into MediaCenter.
In MediaCenter you have to go to "ALL" to access the FileManager functions (copy, cut, etc.)

I've been using Kodi internal player for months and don't notice any difference.

Hello, anyone with this version could tell me if Kodi wrapper now don't crashes when video filename contains special characters (e.g. # or &). This was an issue in previous versions and still didn't work for me but Himedia told me should be fixed now.
Thanks for your help
-
id like to know ,if someone know, if the himedia videoplayer plays all video.....after 2.06 ,some old video (most in old codec like avi,mpeg,wmc...) didn't play more.
could someone give me a feedback ? other problem like subtitle error space,or 4k error , i dont care....so id like to try this 2.09 ....
but im afraid if some old video files dont work more....
thanks for suggestion ;)

Question about Image Quality on Mediacenter and kodi
Is there a difference
tough one...not so obvious to say one is better than the other.
i personally find native player marginally better than kodi player.
so, i do not use kodi.

captain, my captain...
futeko, so long - and thanks for all the fish.
you worked harder than any other supplier to compensate the lack of professionalism from himedia.
but enough is enough. my q10 is now for sale, or giving it as a toy for my nieces. whichever comes first.
hope is for sale.
at least i sold first the power source, was a great part. hdmi cable - mmm., so-so.
... i'm remembering the c3po dismantle in SW5

Already replaced. Oppo 203.
-
I have Oppo 205 and it can't replace Q10 pro.

Well Oppo won't beat HiMedai in picture quality (there's a test that proves that it has clipping and banding issues). With CFW (which is inevitable for network share playback and proper format, like .iso support) it costs a way more than any Android Box jet. + You can't have KODI or any other Poster media browser/Library on Oppo at all. And as far as i can remember there's a mayor bug with subtitle handling, special characters displaying improperly in case of some languages (like mine: Hungarian) with CFW.
I would rather go UP on the HTPC route for that money for sure. IMO.

I have Oppo 205 and it can't replace Q10 pro.
well, don't you want to trade 205 for my q10 ? :)) (huh huh... if i had a 205.. i would change my entire audio system to match the sound quality!)

clipping and banding will be there on 203, as in q10 or directly on tv, via internal player. kodi and posters and library ... i'm not a child anymore, i know all my titles and favorites where they are
romanian subtitles work very well, probably hungarian too (must select proper country code page in 203 subtitle settings).
no iso? extract the content into avchd folder, add some subtitles on usb stick. no streaming (and) apps? tv will handle perfectly netflix at 4k with dolby vision.
i tested 203 a lot; i bought it with intention to return before 14-days grace period expires, because initially i considered that a minor video difference doesn't deserve five-fold price. In this time i asked some of my friends to assist me in these tests - same movie, all default settings on both devices. results was mixed, some preferred darker image on q10, other brighter on 203.
then dolby vision kicked. no more words to say :). "better" became "far better".
to add more kick, i seasoned the experience with some 96/24 flac files, and some 2.82mhz dsd files. the audience remained silent, because neither me or them are audiophiles. but sounds better. suddenly, my old collection of sacd and dvd-a became usable.
long story short, i kept 203, i transformed q10 into a NAS, at least until i'll sell it.

Unbelievable, still no new DTS HD HR license. I'm saying it again, everyone must write to Himedia to fix the DTS HD HR bug. ALSO those who don't use DTS HD HR. Futeko is not noticed at himedia or he did not report this problem. >:(

I might revert to previous firmware version due to stutter noticed in HD TV episodes with this new update... it sucks

Oppo's still much overpriced for it's capabilities. Some are satisfied with the PQ (good for them, and nothing wrong with that) and some can strictly tell, that it's over saturated and over sharpened in most cases. Tho' HiMedai's PQ might also not be 100% perfect in synthetic picture tests, but it's considered as one of the best (if not the best) PQ that any Android based player has to offer at the moment.
Yea, Oppo's also lacks the online TV streaming capability, but what I've really meant is the missing network share access and playback. Only with the pricey CFW will it do that. I'm kinda through that uncomfortable session when I've copied the videos every time to a pendrive and ran around with it between my TV and my Computer.
What Oppo's better at: -maybe- in SD, HD and 1080p upscaling (still you will loose some on the side of the general PQ deficiencies and unnaturality). And -at most definitely- the audio playback sound quality on the analogue outputs.
And... That's it.

Sorry but I have Q10 Pro too. ;)

what???? on oppo? i had problems with q10 and password-protected shares, solved them using simple fie sharing, or with folder named using spaces. but oppo?

So you have Oppo? Than you can tell better than me. As far as I know, playback from network shares only available with the CFW, which you also must buy separately and will cost you a mid-priced Android Media Players price on it's own.

No problems playing 720p or 1080p TV episodes at all. Never has been (with any firmware version). I am using Kodi 17.6 and wrapper settings for playback.
Have you checked your other Settings after the upgrade? Maybe something else changed?
Your stutter issues may also depend on the source of your TV material rather than the player firmware?

Hello, anyone with this version could tell me if Kodi wrapper now don't crashes when video filename contains special characters (e.g. # or &). This was an issue in previous versions and still didn't work for me but Himedia told me should be fixed now.
Thanks for your help
No one? THanks!

Well, in troubleshooting Wi-fi issues I was suffering after moving, I decided to finally update from 2.0.6 to 2.0.9 last night. I reverted back this morning after my box would not power off without pulling the power cable in the back...I'm not the only one who was suffering from this in 2.0.8...looks like it was never fixed. Also, the Wi-fi on these is terrible. I've now attached a higher gain antenna to the back and brought a wi-fi extender into the room to see if I can get enough of a connection to stream from a network drive again.

can you remove chrome as default system app in the next update
they now force the pepper player you can't even get disabled or you have to cancel all flash

From FAQ:
* Remove system apps? Some apps are designated as system apps and cannot be deleted by normal means (Facebook, Skype, Kodi). If you really want to see them gone, follow this guide: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1653.msg13416#msg13416

Or just simply install a different Launcher from PlayStore (I prefer the Nova), and you can hide and drop out any of the icons you wish. + Your GUI will look much prettier than with the plain default Launcher.

Or install the pcristi custom firmware.

It seems Mediaplayer lost the capability to play FLAC files at high resolution in 2.0.9.

never really has it. output was limited at 48khz/24bit - is an android stuff
-
Negative,
In previous FW I read also 192KHz on my Denon.
-
Solved.
Settings - Playback: HDMI Output was AUTO instead of RAW.
Now I have 192 again.

What actually happens: 44.1kHz is upsampled to 48kHz and 24bit is downsampled to 16bit. Due some -very- stupid Android tie-up, only a very few manufacturers have a workaround for this (but which also proves that it wouldn't be impossible, just don't expect the same from HiMedia).

i heard that there are some android players which can output up to 192/24, but they have dedicated DAC for hi-res and DSD media processing, in the same way Sony used a dedicated audio chipset DSD for native playback on their laptops

By my understandings and -so far- collected infos, 192kHz is left unprocessed, only 44.1kHz is concerned in the upsampling (which is a bit more common issue, due the vast number of music materials sampled at this value). There is an older Thread in here somewhere, that has some tested infos regarding.
And also as far as I know, the resampling is independent from the DAC used in the Box, as it happens on software (OS) level, so it will be end up resampled even with digital PCM passthrough to an AVR/external DAC. The Boxes DACs would only matter in the case when the analogue outs being used anyway.

Still no Dolby Vision. Dolby is full of ASSHOLES
