Title: Essential Q10 Pro & Q5 Pro apps (hints & tips)
Post by: kaosnews on January 27, 2018, 03:43:08 PM
I'm very curious what people are using on their Q5/Q10 Pro. Here is my list (still W.I.P.). Clik on the red name for the external link/Playstore link.
Please add your apps/games in this thread - hopefully there are some hidden treasures out there.

APPS
Archos Video Player (Free/Paid) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.archos.mediacenter.videofree&hl=en)
After reading this forum post (http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1786.0) about Archos I tried it and was immediately hooked. It's a very nice replacement for Kodi or Moviebar. The 'leanback' user interface is intuitive.

Smart YouTube TV (Free) (https://smartyoutubetv.github.io/)
Sure the default YouTube app works fine - but Smart YouTube TV gives add free viewing and I really don't see any difference in quality. Some people (http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2682.0) experienced some problems with this app.

Perfect Player IPTV (Free/Paid) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.niklabs.pp&hl=en)
If you use IPTV then this is one of the best ways to watch television. You can also use your favorite EPG.
IPTV (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.iptvremote.android.iptv&hl=en) is also very good, but you must use an external player like MX Player for viewing. Also works with EPG.

Solid Explorer File Manager (Free/Paid) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.solidexplorer2&hl=en)
Simply the best file manager out there. ES File Explorer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop&hl=en) was my favorite file manager, but with it's intrusive advertising mechanism (in the free version), I don't recommended the free version.

SPMC - Semper Media Center (or Kodi) (Free) (http://spmc.semperpax.com/)
Kodi alternative and considered a lot better then Kodi... but I must say that Kodi 17.6 is matured a lot - so we can finally leave Jarvis behind us :)
Using this patch is essential (http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1015.0) if you use SPMC or Kodi. And also try these essential Wrapper settings (http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2145.0).

Power Menu (Free) (http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=812.msg6602#msg6602)
Just a simple power off and restart app. I use the APK (http://www.mediafire.com/?ozlck8hpxw851og) and add the icon to the home screen. You don't have to have root for this version.

TuneIn Stream (Free/Paid) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tunein.player&hl=en)
Listen to your favorite radio stations with TuneIn Radio.

TVLauncher  (Free/Paid) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.awe.dev.pro.tv)
Alternative launcher. Demo video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUzrS7NoQI8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUzrS7NoQI8)

MX Player / MX Player Pro (Free/Paid) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad&hl=en)
Excellent video player which can be used as a replacement for the HiMedia Player. More information about MX Player in this topic. (http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1566.0)

Blokada (Free) (http://blokada.org/index.html)
Free ad blocker without root! Will remove adds from your apps. And yes, this will also remove the adds from that popular streaming app (T*rr**ium TV)  ;)

Gboard - the Google Keyboard (Free) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.inputmethod.latin&hl=en)
I like this keyboard more then the default one.

Phonograph Music Player (Free/Paid) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kabouzeid.gramophone&hl=en)
Very nice looking music player. Unfortunately no NFS support.

Titanium Backup (paid) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup) Thanks (maelor (http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2797.msg22154#msg22154))
Quote
not just to backup but also to "freeze" out unwanted bloatware like Facebook, Moviebar, Skype, ...
You will need ROOT for Titanium Backup, but that's very easy. Check this link (http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1616.msg16855#msg16855). Unpack it, run the /bat file and follow the on-screen instructions (you have to provide the LAN IP).
I then uninstall Netflix, Facebook and Skype and remove the installation files with Solid Explorer from the /system/etc/ directory.

Great list! I go to install the Power Menu.

I also use AirPlay/DLNA Receiver to mirror my tablet and phone.

I am curious which games are doing well on the Q10 / Q5 pro?

I don't use much additional apps on a media player, but I would add:

Total Commander -> a decent file manager, for who used to it on PC. Works on Android a bit differently tho', you need to learn it's logic first, but than can be controlled by even the stock remote.  + SMB plugin-> to reach your network shares and FTP plugin for the fastest file transfers.
Free and no adds!

Poweramp-> one of the best Android music Players. As I have found that from both KODI and HiMedia Music Player the music playback just lacks some quality somehow. Poweramp has much acceptable sound. (I listen music from the analogue RCA outputs on an 2.0 active speaker).

Both (specially Poweramp) would require a mouse/airmouse or a touch-screen mobile controller app for best controllability.

Archos Video Player (Free/Paid) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.archos.mediacenter.videofree&hl=en)
...  It's a very nice replacement for Kodi or Moviebar.

Sorry but Archos can't play ISO files which makes it useless in my opinion!!!

Solid Explorer File Manager (Free/Paid) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.solidexplorer2&hl=en)
Simply the best file manager out there. Stay away from ES File Explorer with it's intrusive advertising mechanism.

So buy the ES File Explorer Pro version and get rid of the adverts!

First of all, I use Total Commander on all my Androids. Second, I use Swype since I bought a while back. I am using Kodi now, so I am not installing SPMC anymore. I am also using Rocket Player https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrtstudio.AnotherMusicPlayer, ServeStream https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.servestream and that is about it. I used to have a lot more, but I have enough Androids to play with and Q10 Pro is just a TV box.

Hi everyone, i love this thread.

Does anyone know a good timer app so the Q10 pro could shut down at a specific time?

Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks fellow himedians

Tasker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm) can do this - it's a very 'complex' but powerful app. Maybe a bit overkill for only shut down at a specific time .

Try HiMedia implementation of this. Go to Settings/About/Timed shutdown/add shutdown task.

I would love to have sort of a timeout option like my smart TV has. If I do not press anything on the remote for 4 hours, it shuts itself down. Not a big thing, since it does not use that much current and there were very few moments when I forgot to shut it down.

Not better but just different :) I like that you can add web shortcuts.
On my other devices I use Nova Launcher, but I don't really like it on a media player. You have a lot (really a lot) more options with Nova Launcher, but I just like the simplicity of the layout. It's a bit like the Google TV leanback design (Nvidia Shield). Speaking of the Shield... I use/'like' the Q10 Pro more then my Nvidia Shield 2017. Can't really explain - it'a maybe because It's more 'open'.

You have 2.0.7 running on your Q10?
I often hear that the Shield TV works better than the Q10.
Do you also play series / films via streams with Kodi?
Title: Re: Essential Q10 Pro & Q5 Pro apps (hints & tips)

Yes the Shield is a lot faster, games are unbelievable and Netflix/Amazon Video play in full HD - but for some reason like the Q10 Pro more. Maybe because there is a normal Playstore, the Q10 Pro got audio outputs (analog and digital), Imprex Engine, adjusting frame rate not working (MX player) on the Shield and probably the most important reason: I put so much time tweaking and testing the Q10 Pro - it's a shame not to use it :)

I use Archos Video Player for playing movies and series and yes I use 2.0.7

That look nice! Is it better then other launchers?

I use Smart Launcher Pro on my mobile and tablet and it's excellent. But most other launchers, were written for small screens and do not look good on a 50 inch 4k television screen.

This TVLauncher (from Norway) uses tiles like the built in HiMedia 3D launcher. But with TVLauncher you can change the layout of the page, make categories, change the colour of tiles, even make your own tiles (just great an 800x450 image using screen clips or standard company logos, and upload your image to the SD card's Download folder. Then click-and-hold one of the original tiles and select Create in the menu, chose your new image but make sure you give it a name for sorting!)

* Change default launcher? In some firmwares (notably 2.0.4) you cannot change default launcher. There are two solutions: 1. http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=711.msg13152#msg13152 2. Install one of the CS custom firmwares, where launcher can be changed: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=812.0

Thank you!

The paid version has no adverts.
I think it's only available in English? I can't see any "Language" options.
You can make you own tiles are use those in the database. If you make a good tile you can upload it to the database for other people to use,

Look at kaosnews' video (title "TVLauncher on the Himedia Q10 Pro") above. All is explained in there.

The line of small white icons at the top are firstly the "App Settings" icon and then four "Sections" icons: "Favourites"; "Media"; "Games"; "Utilities". You can use these or you can delete them, edit them or add more. You can also change the icon.
Into each Section you can add your apps. Each app has a "tile", just like HiMedia's 3D Launcher. But in TVLauncher you can add as many tiles as you want! You can set the screen to have 3, 4, 5, 6 columns of tiles. You can use tiles from their on-line database or design your own. You canadd tiles you've made to their database for other people to use.
All changes are saved.

The icon to the right of the date/time is "All Apps", again like HiMedia's 3D Launcher.
The app is very easy to use but gives you so much control  8)!
But to make the app the  default launcher you need to have a new version if the firmware (I use 2.0.7)

What the program gives me more after paying?I miss only Polish translations  :) And more tiles, I do not know if it depends on the region?

The paid version has no adverts.
I think it's only available in English? I can't see any "Language" options.
You can make you own tiles are use those in the database. If you make a good tile you can upload it to the database for other people to use,
I do not have adverts.. :)at least I did not notice.Application installed from google shop.

I found the answer by myself. I just installed it on my Q10 Pro running CFW. I kinda like it. I wish it was able to save layouts. I remember seeing it once at least. I think it was installed on ATV unofficial builds. I like the fact that I can increase the number of icons in a row. I wish it had the option to just show the icon and have a transparent background, much like 3D Launcher.

There is a small advert on the settings page - so not really noticeable.
