Title: Q5/Q10 Pro FAQ
Post by: futeko.com on December 21, 2016, 12:34:21 PM
Firmware

* Where to find official firmware? http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=711.0
* Where to find custom firmware? http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=812.0

GUI

* How to change home screen apps? Navigate to the tile you want to replace on home screen and press menu button on remote. Select an app from the app list and it will replace the selected tile.
* How to remove apps from home screen? Navigate to the '+' tile and select it. You'll be taken to an app selection screen with the home screen apps marked with tick boxes. Untick the apps you want to remove.
* How to change the pre-installed keyboard / add keyboard languages? See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=897.msg6206#msg6206
* Change default launcher? From firmware 2.0.6 onwards, any launcher can be installed.
* Remove bottom navigation bar in firmware 2.0.4+ (tested up to 2.0.8)? - Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?1gf285u9nkybaey (http://www.mediafire.com/?1gf285u9nkybaey). - Rename disable_android_navigation_bar_(CFW)_HMD-2.0.4-2.0.8.zip to update.zip and copy to USB pen flash. - Back your sensitive data / kodi /etc... - Apply update.zip from Setting/Upgrade/Local Upgrade
* Change launcher wallpaper? The only way to change wallpaper is through HiMedia's media center app. Navigate to the image you want to use, then press remote menu - Wallpaper.
* Android Remote Control App? HiControl provides screen mirroring and remote control for Q5/Q10 Pro. It enables Q5/Q10 Pro to be used without a TV. See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=796.0
* How to reset Launcher (e.g if lost My Apps icons)? Launcher app settings can be reset as follows: Settings - More - Apps - Enable 'show system apps' - find 'Launcher_3D' - Clear data.

System

* Camera/microphone not working in Android 7? In Android 7 you need to give permission to apps to use microphone / camera etc. Go Settings - More - Apps and select the cog icon top right. Now select App permissions. On the right you'll see a list of various Android features. Select microphone/camera etc and enable access for the apps you want to use the device with.
* Turn off LCD? Settings - More - Display - LCD OFF.
* Supported Keyboards / Mice / Airmice / Webcams? In general most are supported. Q5/Q10 Pro use standard Android kernel which has good support for peripherals. Check out this thread for a list: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=904.0
* Add stop button to remote? Q5/Q10 Pro remote does not have a stop button, instead you press back button to stop. To add a proper stop button by remapping some remote number keys see here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1259
* Logitech Harmony remote with Q5/Q10 Pro? Yes. Support is excellent. Choose 'HD300A' from Harmony database.
* Q5/Q10 Pro PSU type? You can use any 12V 1.5A+ PSU (up to 4A). Tip size is 5.5 x 2.1 with center pin positive.
* Change subtitle fonts? You can install alternative subtitle fonts using this script: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1118.0
* Do full system backup? You need to be root and install Titanium Backup from Play Store. More info: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1616.msg13230#msg13230
* Get system diagnostics? You can get comprehensive diagnostic info from Q5/Q10 Pro using this tool: http://www.android-mediaplayer.de/index.php/Thread/3845-Himedia-Debug-Info-system/
* Q10 Pro interfering with HDMI CEC/ARC? Q10 Pro CEC should be disabled in FW 2.0.3 and later. However, some users still report problems with Q10 Pro interfering with CEC/ARC signals. If this is the case you can either get a CEC stripping HDMI adapter or manually block pin 13 on the HDMI cable. See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=747.0
* Add a Google account after first account deleted? If you delete your Google account then attempt to reinstall it you will find it impossible to add another account. This can be fixed by going: Settings - More - Apps - Google Play services - Storage - CLEAR CACHE. Now run Play Store and you can add a new Google account.
* Colorspace options in firmware 2.1.0 and later? The 10bit colourspace options can be restored in 2.1.0 by pressing 0 3 5 1 in sequence on the Himedia remote.

HiMediaplayer - Media Playback

* Auto resolution switching (source direct)? You can install a patch to add auto resolution switching (match HDMI output resolution to video vertical resolution). See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1043.0
* More auto framerate switching? You can install a patch to add 50>60, 60>50 and 25/30>50/60. See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1043.0
* Contrast changes / flickering during playback? This is probably caused by the dynamic contrast feature and can be turned off. Whilst playing video press menu button then PQ Settings - Imprex - Dynamic Contrast (fw 2.0.4 and later). You also turn Imprex off entirely if you prefer. See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2223.msg18956#msg18956
* Blu-Ray ISO full menus? From firmware 2.0.5 and later you can install a patch to give BD ISO full menu support in Himediaplayer. See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2291.0

Kodi - General

* How to make Kodi (or other app) launch on startup? Go to 'My Apps' from home screen, navigate to the app you want to auto-start, and press menu button on remote. The option to 'Default start' will appear over app icon.
* Auto framerate switching with Kodi native player (DVDplayer)? There is a Kodi repo and add-on offering full auto-framerate switching. See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1015
* Map remote key to Kodi function (e.g. add Kodi exit button to remote)? This can be done by installing the Kodi Keymap Editor add-on. See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1214.msg10364#msg10364
* Stop Kodi Android from auto-updating? -From home screen go to Play Store. -Select the three line menu icon at top left next to where it says 'Google Play'. -Select 'My Apps & games' in left panel. -Scroll down to Kodi and select it. -Select the three dots menu icon at top right of screen. You should see a check box for 'Auto update'. Disable it.
* Stop Kodi 17 new remote message and disabled back / menu buttons? In Kodi, go Add-ons / My add-ons / Peripheral libraries / Joystick Support / Disable
* Stop Kodi 17 streams from stuttering? In Kodi, change settings level to Advanced and go Settings - Player - Videos - Allow hardware acceleration - Mediacodec (Surface): OFF.
* Get 5.1 audio passthrough working in Kodi 17? Kodi 17 changed how it handles audio passthrough meaning that 5.1 passthrough is broken on Q5/Q10 Pro. You can get 5.1 passthrough back (same as Kodi 16) by either installing the 'shitty' Kodi build (stupid name we know) from here: http://mirrors.kodi.tv/test-builds/android/arm/ or installing a pcristi firmware (version 2.0.4 or later) and using standard Kodi.

Kodi - Wrapper (playercorefactory.xml)

* What is wrapper for Kodi? The HiMedia 'wrapper' is a patch that makes Kodi use the HiMedia video player app for local (LAN/USB/HDD) videos. You can therefore use Kodi's media management interface with HiMedia's superior picture quality, 7.1 HD-Audio, 3D-ISO, 4K HDR support.
* Can wrapper be used for streams? No, it is for local video only. Pre-installed wrapper is set up so that it will only launch for local files. Kodi internal player will be used for streams.
* How to install wrapper? Wrapper is pre-installed.
* How to check wrapper is installed? Run Kodi and navigate to Videos - Files - any video file. Press remote menu key. You should get a 'play using..' option with 'Wrapper' as an option.
* How to reinstall wrapper? Shutdown Kodi. Find wrapper app at My Apps - Wrapper. Select 'use Kodi player'. Exit wrapper app. Run wrapper app again. Select 'use wrapper player'. Exit wrapper app. Restart Kodi.
* How to uninstall wrapper? Shutdown Kodi. Find wrapper app at My Apps - Wrapper. Select 'use Kodi player'. Exit wrapper app. Restart Kodi.
* Password protected Samba shares Kodi+wrapper? Go My Apps - Wrapper and enter your Samba details.
* Where can I download the wrapper app? The wrapper app is pre-installed. Find it at My Apps - Wrapper. If you need to download it for any reason it is here (Wrapper-1.0.3_HMD_0411 - from FW 2.03): http://www.mediafire.com/file/0h22goov27x9bk6/Wrapper-1.0.3_HMD_0411.apk
* NFS shares using Kodi+wrapper? NFS shares and wrapper are supported in firmware 2.0.1 and later.
* How to modify the wrapper's behaviour? The wrapper is controlled by a file called 'playercorefactory.xml'. This can be easily modified. Method 1 (using Q5/Q10 Pro): - Install a file manager app like 'total commander'. - Navigate to root/sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/ - Edit playercorefactory.xml (total commander has a built in file editor). Method 2 (using a PC): - Enable Samba sharing on Q5/Q10 Pro (Settings - More - SAMBA Service - Enable) - Navigate to Q5/Q10 Pro on a PC and then to /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/ - Edit playercorefactory.xml using PC file editor

Networking

* Q5/Q10 Pro wake up on LAN? https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=4301.0
* Share Q5/Q10 Pro internal storage / internal HDD / USB storage on a network? Turn on Samba sharing. Go Settings - More - SAMBA Service - Start. You can add password protection if you wish. This will share the internal storage, internal HDD and all attached USB storage using a Samba (Windows) network.
* Improve Samba server performance? This patch will improve Samba server performance up to ~ 80MB/s: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1479.0
* Install FTP server for faster file transfer?Transfers to Q5/Q10 Pro will be approx twice as fast using FTP instead of built in Samba server. There are many free Android FTP apps in Play Store, 'primitive ftpd' (Android 5.1) and 'Free FTP Server' (Andriod 7) have been tested and works well (Android 5.1 only).
* Create persistent mountpoints for network locations (Samba and NFS) in Android filesystem? http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=813.0
* Problems accessing a Samba share? HiMediaplayer / Kodi+wrapper do not like Samba paths with spaces. The folder names cannot contain spaces but the filenames can.
* Cannot see 5Ghz wi-fi network? Try changing 5Ghz wi-fi channel on your router. Try 36,48,149.
* Problems accessing NFS shares (e.g. from Synology NAS)? Kodi have an excellent guide to setting up NFS on various systems/routers. It's applicable to NFS generally, not just Kodi. See here: http://kodi.wiki/view/NFS
* Cannot access Q5/Q10 using Samba server using a PC after Windows 10 update? See http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2536.0
* Create NFS shares in Windows? https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=4357.0

Storage

* Installing HDD in Q10 Pro? http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=932.0
* Best way to format Q10 Pro internal HDD? For most users the best option will be GPT and NTFS. See here for a detailed explanation of the options for formatting large HDDs: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=576.0
* Access Q10 Pro internal HDD on PC via USB cable? Q10 Pro internal SATA HDD will appear as a USB drive when Q10 Pro is attached to PC by USB type B to USB type A cable (like a typical USB printer cable).
* Drive mount location? All apps except the HiMedia file browser and player use Android file structure. All directories and locations are subdirectories of root, which is symbolised as /. This is different for Android 5.1 and Android 7 firmwares. For Android 5.1: External drives are located at /mnt/sda/sda1 (Q10 Pro internal HDD only) and  /mnt/sdb/sdb1 then /mnt/sdb/sdb2 etc (all USB drives). For Android 7: External drives are located at /mnt/media_rw/
* Attached storage (USB, HDD) mounted at same location after reboot? Mount by UUID / label? For firmware 2.0.0 Android 7 and later only, see here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1398.0
* Max Q5/Q10 Pro SD Card size/type 64GB SDHC.
* Increase internal storage? Android 7 has an option to use an SD card as additional internal storage. This overcomes any limitation from 8/16GB internal flash. See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1473.0

Apps

* Essential apps? This thread has a discussion of good apps for Q10/Q5 Pro: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2797.0
* Some apps won't run and report Q5/Q10 Pro as rooted? Q5/Q10 Pro are not rooted, but some apps incorrectly detect them as such. The easiest solution is to install the CS custom firmware, where all streaming apps work. See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=812.0
* 4K Youtube? Download and install microG for OGYT: http://www.mediafire.com/download/kwcma5y9n5dlafj/microG_for_OGYT_%28v1.0%29.apk and OGYoutube: http://ogmods.net/home/OGYouTube.
* Add GUI power button to home screen? See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=812.msg6602#msg6602 After installing, add the power menu to home screen by selecting the + icon on home screen and choosing the powermenu app. Alternatively, install the pcristi custom firmware: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=812.0
* Netflix? Netflix works well on Q10/Q5 Pro. The only limitation is that it is 480p/576p max resolution (as with most other Android devices). You need firmware version 2.0.5 or later and Netflix version 5.8.1 or later.
* Remove system apps? Some apps are designated as system apps and cannot be deleted by normal means (Facebook, Skype, Kodi). If you really want to see them gone, follow this guide: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1653.msg13416#msg13416
* Amazon Prime Video? Apply this patch to firmware 2.0.7 to get Amazon Prime Video working (SD only): http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2928.msg22732#msg22732
* Apps with missing top right control buttons (e.g. PowerAMP, Tasker, Titanium Backup, Primitive FTPd)? Apply this patch to firmware 2.0.7 (same patch as for Amazon Prime Video): http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2928.msg22732#msg22732

Misc

* Differences between Q5/Q10 Pro Chinese and European/international hardware? See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1175.msg9321#msg9321

Would like to point to CetusPlay v2.1.0 which is a very nice remote control for Android smartphones. You need to install the TV version on the player and the Phone version on the smartphone and then it goes. Very complimentary to Hicontrol having many additional functions.

Some hints:
- I don't like that it needs full access to phone dialing functions. It won't work when denied. Do recommend to stop and remove the APP from memory when not in use for that reason.
- There is a "Screen Capture" feature included, which is also great for bug reporting here.

Very nice for those not having a supplementary RF remote pointer-mouse/keyboard (yet).

Morning.
Wasnt sure where to post this . Im running CFW 2.04 albeit probably of no relevance.

Whenever I download Apks/ Zips they are initially stored into the ES file Explorer. How can i change settings so all my downloads initially load in the device's download file. I can move them later, if so, but initially want them in the device storage download file. Easier i find when navigating. Thanks

Hello.

I installed the navigation bar remove update, but when I scroll up in google chrome using an air mouse, it comes out and I have no idea how to minimize it except restarting the device.
Could reinstalling the update help?

Another question, how do I set UHD or HD wallpaper? It seems using the media center > picture > set as wallpaper does not set the wallpaper as nice as I would expect. Any preference on image file type?

Egreat A5 supports full original menus for Blu-Ray ISO rips. HiMedia currently support only a basic text menu for chapters/audio/sub selection.

Other differences are Egreat have a more integrated and better media browser. Egreat have Vidon, HiMedia have Kodi+wrapper. Egreat A5 has single band wifi, Himedia Q5 Pro has dual band. And more minor things..

* Get 5.1 audio passthrough working in Kodi 17? Kodi 17 changed how it handles audio passthrough meaning that it is currently broken on Q5/Q10 Pro (as at 25-APR-17). This will be fixed and future firmware will have full HD-Audio passthrough (inc 7.1). In the meantime you can install a build of Kodi with the audio passthrough system from Kodi 16.1 restored. Install the 'shitty' build (stupid name we know). See here: http://mirrors.kodi.tv/test-builds/android/arm/

Has this been fixed in any of the recent firmware updates? If so please explain how to configure HD-Audio passthrough.  I am on Kodi 17.04 but so far unsuccessful in setting up the passthrough. The wrapper player plays fine though. And I do not want to use the shitty build.

Kindly advise.

At this point in time the only way to get 7.1 audio in kodi 17.4 is by using the wrapper.
To get 5.1 audio u can use kodi 16.1 or a shitty build. Since u say that you don't want to use a shitty build I'd recommend installation of Pcristi custom firmware. Allows 5.1 in any kodi build.

Oh, and when we can expect correct DVD fps switching and deinterlacing?! Would be awesome...

Hello!

I have a technical question regarding the video playback capabilities of the HiMedia Player (for both Futeko and for anyone else who could answer): does it support interlaced video playback deinterlacing?! I mean both in the case of 1080i and SD interlaced video material.

Sure it can playback these videos, but is it capable to do the proper deinterlacing to result a correct PQ, as they've meant to be playback normally.

Is this already integrated and working in HiMedia Player?! :???

Thanks for the reply and any info regarding!

Hi!

I have a 4TB  internal HDD (sda2) installed in the Q10 pro box. When I access the drive using windows 10 explorer over the network, the drive size is incorrectly reported as only 970 MB. I don't have an issue transferring files larger than that, like files 4.4GB. I just ignore the warning that windows or what ever file explorer I use. My issue is that I can't tell how much space is being used by my files and how much free space is left. It's pretty inconvenient to take out the drive or bring the box to where the PC is located to physically connect it through USB. Is there some patch to correct that? (Sorry I'm not to familiar with the limits of android.  :-[)
Also, is there a limit to the number of directory levels and number of files that can be put in a directory. The reason I ask is because sometimes when I put too many files, windows explorer and other 3rd party explorers do not show all the files. They are there in the directory because when I try to re-copy the files, it asks if I would like to overwrite the file, but it is not seen in the directory.  This also happens to directories, I create directories and they will not show up when there are too many sub directories or files already in there, but when I try to create a directory with the same name, it tells me its there. No amount of refreshes or application restarts fix the issue. I have to physically connect the box or the HDD to the computer through USB to see the apparently invisible files / directories.
The work around I have found is making sure the number of files in each directory does not reach a certain amount. For example let say I have 40 files in a directory, when i try to add another file or directory it does not show up on the screen after I transfer or create it. But if I transfer out some of the  other files to another directory, the missing file/directory shows up. So as a workaround I have to make several sub directories inside the main directory and split the files between the sub directories. Its very inconvenient to have to always make sure I do not go over the limit. The funny thing is, Kodi and the the android file explorer see the invisible files, its just not showing on the screen in windows over the network. If I transfer the files/directory using the USB by physically connecting the box to the PC, this issue is not present, there is no limit to the number of files/directories I can put under one directory; all the files show up. Does anyone know why? ???

Please can someone answer these questions. Thanks!

There is a private beta for BD menus. So coming soon. It does not include DVD menus, only BD.

Great, and how does it function so far for the BD menus?!

No DVD menus makes the news duller, but would be much more primary, if we could get proper official DVD playback support at first and at all.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but please  need an answer. I am using the Wrapper to play my mkv files to enable full audio pass through. But while in Kodi I can switch to specific chapters within the file, using the wrapper menu controls(using the remote), I cannot do this. Is there a way to switch chapters while using the wrapper?

If your mkv files have proper chapters included, it works with the remote to the next chapter.  Each FF push skips to the following chapter and multiple clicks can be quite quick.  It works fine for Blu-ray movie and concerts to skip the next track or so forth.  You just can't type in a specific chapter number.

Hi all,
Maybe it is a stupid question, but any help is appreciated! A year ago I bought me a Q5 Pro. My dealer told me it would update automatically. Allright, I received one update. My Android version at this moment is 5.1.1, build number: HMD-1.0.9 2016-12-14.190953. Can I update/upgrade to Android 7.x? If it's possible, which firmware do I need?

My dealer doesn't respond on this question, or advises me NOT to update (because his Kodi-build (automatic updated) wouldn't work anymore....).

Thanx for any reaction!!

You need to update to 2.0.4 then 2.0.5.

Could you tell us what kind of "KODI build" do you have preinstalled by your dealer?

Apologies for the late response, but many thanks. It works!

Two questions (don't want to start separate thread for this):

1. YouTube HDR is not possible at the moment with the Q5/Q10 Pro, saw some older post about it but no change I guess? (maybe to put it in FAQ).

2. Q10 Pro has Chromecast on board, cause I can see the screensaver from it :), So I should be able to see the chromecast device from my phone. Thing is I can't find the device/Q10 on my Android phone in the Home app.  My existing older "wifi stick Chromecast" is working but the Q10 is not visible. Q10 pro is wired to my network and Wifi is disabled on the Q10 (maybe relevant if wifi should be enabled on the Q10 for chromecast). Do I need to to anything special to get it working? Maybe add my Google account on the Q10 somewhere?

Wrong(offtopic) to be discussed on this topic, but this are answer.

1 Depend in what Google will do for moment only few device are allow for play HDR.
2 Did you use CFW witch start with v2.0.5 have added daydream backdrop

If you need cast function to YouTube read on YouTube (Android TV) version 2.0 ( 2160P @60 ) how to get it.

2 Yes, haha.. I was thinking it's an on board Google Chrome feature, will look into the cast option.

Very disappointing with it just being out of warranty & this is the only place I could find any support :-) up until a week ago it was working perfectly fine.

Any help greatly appreciated

Try to disconnect everything from the box and removing internal hard drive;
Try another power supply ;
Try to reset it with the button in the back;
Try to reinstall the firmware. You do need to know the version you had, If you don't reinstall 2.0.1

Tried everything even updating as suggested but device keeps flashing with the boot with the power light going red green red green occasionally the himedia symbol would show up on the TV screen, I have tried with new HDMI cable that didn't do anything

Having a high level disability I have to wait for somebody who can use their hands to do what I need to do.

Try doing that the update with the 2.01 as suggested but it just says "boot with a circle in the middle & then the little power light flashing red and green

Your best chance is to reinstall the firmware using the restore button method, follow instructions in the firmware upgrade topic carefully, try more than once.

I think you'll need to do as described in this post: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1622.msg14469#msg14469

If you had Android 5.1 installed before the box stopped working use 1.0.7 firmware, if you had Android 7 installed use 2.0.1.

I think 4A would be the very max current used by the box in any circumstance, there's no problem in using a power supply with a higher rating.

I see, and what about using a 4A "upgrade" PSU, just to may gain some quality improvement in audio playback and -maybe- in the PQ? There are lot's of contrary and misty opinions regarding this over the net, so I'm asking regarding any real experiences, if it would really make any difference or would be just absolutely nothing. ?  Or what about those specially re-fabricated and enhanced "tuning" PSU-s that are suggested by some shops for dedicated media players?

You should rub weekly your power supply and power cord with snake oil so the electrons flow better.

Oh, how didn't I thought of this previously? Unfortunately I don't have any snake oil at hand at the moment, cause it's very rare in our country, but I guess some extra-virgin fish-oil would do just as good to speed up the transfer.  Too bad, that the fish-oil (even the extra-virgin type) tends to be very smelly after a while, so I guess I will wait for a more executable suggestion (or more likely for a constructive and serious answer).

You kinda asked for such an answer :)
A good power supply may have a positive impact in any device but not in picture and sound quality when we are talking about digital devices. If it was an analog device like a CRT TV, FM radio, amplifier etc it would be a different story.

I know that this is the statement of the sceptics (I also think this way, normally ;D ) but recently I've read a couple of semi-convincing opinions, reviews and adverts regarding the beneficial effect of various PSU upgrades to media players. They also involve the quality and types of the used components that the PSU have been assembled from. Like "clarifier ferritring", minimal noise level, steady Voltage flow. Here's an example (https://www.lejatszo.hu/?oldal=termek&termid=1576). Also a couple of members on another tech Forum have the conviction that it really can effect the audio and PQ, even in the case of digital equipments and data flow (I guess something about how it could make the transfer more error-free and thus more bit-perfect).

So while still sceptical and full of doubts, but I thought there may have some real technical basis behind these beliefs.

I have the same question....anyone?

1.st: there no proper auto frequency switching for interlaced videos at all. That means you must set the freque manually in the settings to 25->50Hz, 30->60Hz before playback, depending on source. Otherwise, the deinterlacing PQ is quite "good", even if the freque isn't switched as it must. A HTPC  or even some concurrent Android Boxes may can do a bit better, but I wouldn't call the PQ bad at all. I would say it's quite OK. But you need to do the proper freque switching manually  to get proper motion resolution, otherwise it surely would stutter. Huge drawback since the beginning (of no auto working option), but HiMedia seems to avoid any request regarding this issue...

Thank you for the answer.
So, if i choose manually the 25--->50 option there will be no micro-stuttering ?especially in moving objects or people?
Also, can i choose it while i play the video or must i go back to the menu?

Case of 25fps interlaced video switch it to 50, in case of 29.97fps switch it to 60. I rather call it a constant stutter, not micro, as it would be constant all video long,  due the half fps, the player would drop each second frame.  Bearable, but with manually switched you will get much smoother motion effect.

The most correct freq for 29.97fps interlaced videos would be 59.94Hz, but that's not an option here. So 60Hz is the closest you can get. Not sure tho if you will detect any micro stutters in this case due the not exact matching cadence. In theory you may, but maybe the player or the TV does it's job to compensate the effect.

The best and safest way is to switch it in the Settings menu every time before the actual playback happens. For everything else, leave it on 60Hz and set 24p mode back on.

Edit: Oh, and in this case don't forget to set 24p mode to OFF before you play the interlaced videos.

The NFS / playercorefactory.xml questions in the FAQ were a mess, thanks for pointing that out.

I have removed all of them. NFS should play normally using wrapper without any additional setup. Tested with 2.0.8.

Sub switching and Default Switch are mess in original HiMediaVideoPlayer from OFW 2.0.7/2.0.8/2.0.9 try set Android language to English UK or others language then English US and check if both become available when video play on menu/subtitle.  CFW have mod HiMediaVideoPlayer where Default Switch is available in any language. Other options is to extract HiMediaVideoPlayer.apk from corresponding CFW  2.0.7/2.0.8/2.0.9 and install on your box as normal apk.

I had the Himedia Q10 that I bought 3 years ago

How much difference between Q10 and Q10 Pro

If I play 4K HDR File, can I play it as normal 4K File without having adjust my projector settings ?   I have Oppo  203 now and can use the strip metadata feature and that works for that

Does the Q10 Pro use the same Video Chip as  Q10 model ?

Will external hard drives of 8-16 TB work with Q10 Pro ?

I had the Himedia Q10 that I bought 3 years ago

How much difference between Q10 and Q10 Pro

If I play 4K HDR File, can I play it as normal 4K File without having adjust my projector settings ?   I have Oppo  203 now and can use the strip metadata feature and that works for that

Does the Q10 Pro use the same Video Chip as  Q10 model ?

Will external hard drives of 8-16 TB work with Q10 Pro ?

Q10 Pro supports HDR > SDR.

It has a different SOC, but it's an evolution. Same manufacturer, HiSilicon. PQ is very similar to Q10 4K3D/quad.

Up to 10TB drives definitely work. Larger probably work but I know of no testing.

There is no Default Switch to Close option in official firmware 2.0.7. Has this option been added in firmware 2.0.8/2.0.9?

Sub switching and Default Switch are mess in original HiMediaVideoPlayer from OFW 2.0.7/2.0.8/2.0.9 try set Android language to English UK or others language then English US and check if both become available when video play on menu/subtitle.  CFW have mod HiMediaVideoPlayer where Default Switch is available in any language. Other options is to extract HiMediaVideoPlayer.apk from corresponding CFW  2.0.7/2.0.8/2.0.9 and install on your box as normal apk.
Changing the Android language did not help.

In your CFW, there is the Default Subtitle Off switch. Very cool!

But honestly, I can't understand why you have to install a Custom Firmware on a Media Player to switch off subtitles. Really, I just can't understand it.

You realize that your paid subscription will only get you SD (Standard Definition) aka 480 delivery don't you on all of theses non-authorized 'streaming' boxes??

I think he probably realises.

These products are media players, primarily for locally stored media, not paid streaming services.

I wished I had a dollar everytime I read about someone that didn't know. About as many times as ones don'r understand resolution scaling (upconverting 480 to 1080p thinking they are actually watching true 1080p material).  ;)

Hi, I can copy or delete files without using other programs?

What do you mean by other programs? You need a file manager on it for local operation and Samba enabled in the settings for using a PC to copy stuff on it.

What has changed or what am I doing wrong?

CFW have mod HiMediaVideoPlayer where Default Switch is available in any language.

This is amazing, thank you!! I didn't realize what Default Switch did, although now it should've been apparent lol. It was annoying have to turn subtitles off on every movie I watched, so this is super helpful.

Hi, technical question Q10 for LAN port with LED and Q10 for LAN port without LED, what is the difference? Somewhere I saw that without LED is a newer model? And better LAN speed? Is that so ?

pcristi thanks.   So is it probably useless to change to a newer model? I do not use Netflix, or is it worth replacing in the future?

Himedia Q10Pro PCB v1.3 vs PCB v2.2 from LAN speed are not difference.
PCB v2.2 has as +
- DRM L1
- Not LED on ethernet port
- Box come with Android 7.0
- A newest one have HMD-2.1.4 2019-09-10.150132 or HMD-2.1.4 2019-09-11.161658
-- HMD-2.1.4 2019-09-10.150132 without google service
-- HMD-2.1.4 2019-09-11.161658 with google service
Box can be update to any CFW/OFW v2.1.4 and up, but never downgrade to Android 5.1.1 as lost DRM L1 key.

Sorry remove by mistake OP, forum give to me some strange "504 Gateway Time-out".
Don't know, on 4pda forum new owner prefers to buy box with PCB 2.2, but 5 years old model sooner or latter will need to be replace with new once. For now I still waiting for competitive model to come on market.

Will see...
Maybe CFW base on HMD-2.1.4 2019-09-11.161658 to have a equivalent on CFW ATV v2.15.2 on tablet mode, but not ETA for this as changes between HiMediaVideoPlayer 1.2.45 and 1.2.50 are more relate to ass subtitles and interface like on Q100 (https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=812.msg29663#msg29663) is not what I want in CFW.

Hello

Over night my q10 pro has gone into a boot mode and it’s never ending. Himedia logo , blank screen, himedia logo. The dial days ‘ boot ‘ that’s all. Left it alone last night and was fine, and no one has tried to update or use paper clip etc. What’s happened and how to fix ? Most urgent. Thanks

In My Q10 Pro, after a night all glowing elements on the display disappeared, even the standby diode. After dismantling, it turned out that the soldering of the front panel cable socket is damaged. After re-soldering the connector, everything returned to normal. The display lights up correctly. The soldering of the motherboard in Q10 Pro is poor. Maybe in your case something similar?

Thanks for the reply.

I have now had to accept my loss  and rebooted using paper clip to version I had running. 2.14 with 17.6 kodi. That’s well and good but now go into internet, into kodi it’s just rebooting all the time. I’m spending more time waiting for it to reboot than watching and haven’t yet got to stage of installing back up from April. It’s beyond my wits end now so want to move on.

As previously advised what’s another good box for kodi on the market, with the capacity of the pro 10,, with hard drive I like that with the TV box as download subtitles to watch foreign series etc.

Pro 10,s been good for 5 years but I want to watch tv, not to be caught in spiral, descending like a circle of Dante’s inferno with my mind and patience glowing by the minute. Regrets

You should reinstall the firmware, after the reset you did the box is missing part of its software.

Did you just pressed the button with the paper clip without the usb flash drive or reinstall the firmware?
Try another power supply before given up on the Q10Pro, if it's bad it can cause several issues. Does it boot without the internal and external USB devices?

Thanks again. The unit was as previously advised in a repetitive circle. I totally switched it off and inserted flash drive and waited for the rings etc. Everything comes up fine until I start using the internet or kodi and it just seems reboots, takes about 90 seconds. Everything is as was, pages open on chrome etc, my apps, but kodi then needs restart and invariably it’s reboots again...

It’s says boot on the dial but it’s not rebooting like when upgrading, more as when you turn unit on,

Are you suggesting that a upgrade was corrupted somehow?

Umph. Seems to remember there was some crackling noises when doing paperclip. Presumably that’s a fault in the machine which may need soldering which above my skill level. Is there a checklist to determine if this is the fault ?

Edit just fiddled with power cable and unit did a another boot up, perhaps your correct. Can hear faint frazzling from unit/lead but presently too much noise to determine definitively. I will investigate further when peace descends again. I basically have unit on all the time, and the plug is warm which may also contribute but this is after 5/6 use so odd methinks?

No. Never touched anything under the bonnet. Only techie thing was doing paperclip upgrade.

One other thing, it never happens when I’m watching a movie or show. Only when I change addon or app etc using remote...

Thanks for replying

May be as has been previously pointed to. Are you suggesting a new plug lead etc, and is their anything I could do to test this hypothesis. Totally on its own last night so does seem logical that the power is tripping or intermittent causing disarray to units functionality, but how as it come about me ponders.

Hello everyone. Finally HiMedia stopped blocking ARC and many other things. I did a little mobo modification. Details in the picture. First row, third pin from the left on the HDMI connector, this is the 13th pin in the plug. A piece of the path ends with grommet to the other side. It is enough to slightly drill the grommet. Works 100%  :)

Is this Power menu mod (https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=812.msg6602#msg6602) still applicable for OFW 2.1.7? Just, it makes me confused that I see a different Power menu app named PowerMenu-com.minix.power_selector-1.0-1(themed) (https://www.mediafire.com/?kvlryqpyzcac3) in pcristis Mediaifire uploads.

So which one should i use for OFW 2.1.7?

Hello, thanks, I would ask, but I guess you don't have any screenshots from the Minix version? In this case can you tell me from what Minix Box is this app (or just the icons?) from, so I can google it out?

And how can I "install" the Minix version, as it is only an apk? Or do I need to do the update.zip update of this one (https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=812.msg6602#msg6602), and only after that can I install and use the Minix version app?

Thanks, so I still need to install the update.zip of the power menu mod first to get this Minix app version working?

And is the "Sleep" option working with these HiMedia Boxes? I thought they don't have any Sleep mode.
